Meet Meagan Leach

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meagan Leach. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meagan below.

Meagan, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Confidence and self esteem has taken me many years and a number of things to get to where I am today. I grew up terribly shy and anxious and always hid in the shadows around people, always afraid of being judged.
I’ve done a ton of work on myself. I took care of my mental health and started to heal from within. I also stopped caring so much about what other people think of me and have totally embraced my goofy, unique, and colorful self.
My husband, family, and friends also always have my back and remind me of who I am whenever I have any self-doubt. They’re my actual cheerleaders. It’s so important to have a tribe that supports you and cheers you on in life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a hair artist who specializes in creative color. My niche is vibrant, multicolored looks that make my clients stand out in a crowd. I love creating something for my client that makes them feel unique, confident, and bold. I love designing custom looks that you won’t find anywhere else. I absolutely love creating a safe space in my chair for my clients to relax, chat, and enjoy their time while we collaborate to create art with their hair being the canvas!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Self worth and confidence has been a huge impact in my journey. I try to always remind myself everyday that I have what it takes to do whatever I put my mind to and be whoever I want to be.

Kindness has also been detrimental to my journey. Kindness to myself and kindness to others. We need other people in our lives to cheer us on and to help us succeed in our life journeys. I’ve built so many amazing relationships over the years and couldn’t have ended up where I am without the people in my life.

Learning is another huge part of my journey. I never stop learning about my craft. This keeps me relevant and also passionate. I never want to get stuck in a rut of doing the same thing everyday, and try to keep myself and others excited about my art.
I also never stop learning from my mistakes. You can beat yourself up and give up, or you can grow and learn from your past and become a better version of yourself.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I used to think I needed to be good and well-rounded at every skill, but over the years, I realize that it’s okay to have a niche! I am extremely passionate about color and specifically vivid colors and it’s what excites me and what I excel at. I love having clients that are excited to sit in my chair for my color work and who specifically chose me for what I do. I am able to put more passion into my work when I’m doing something I love. When working in a field of many talented artists, it’s great to stand out by being a specialist.
