Meet Meagan Morris

We recently connected with Meagan Morris and have shared our conversation below.

Meagan, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
The short answer would be from my upbringing! My parents did not raise my sisters and I  to quit. No matter what you are faced with, if you hold strong to your faith even if it’s just the size of a mustard seed and you work hard you will come out on top. I also know playing sports, basketball to be exact, helps me be resilient. Coaches always told me I was too short to play post and too slow to play guard and guess what I proved them wrong? I was the starting point guard in college and played post against girls who had 6-7 inches on me and held my own. My philosophy is to tell me I can’t and I will show you that I can!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I was born and raised in Herndon, Virginia so I am still a native to the area. My love of cooking came at the age of six when my Mom had me watching cooking shows like Julia Childs, Justin from Louisiana  and Frugal Fannie but it was really Julia and her love for cooking that made me want to do this later in life. I do think I caught her later in her life where she was doing more drinking of wine then cooking but either way she brought so much fun to cooking and who doesn’t want to enjoy what they do. I went to PCT and majored in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management while playing D3 basketball.

Palate Sensations was born in Fall of 2019 but officially started in January of 2020. I knew we lived in a busy, hustle and bustle area and felt like families no longer had family dinners and I wanted to put that concept back in homes. Picture that you had a busy day at the office, you rushed home to drop kids off at sports and now it’s 8p and you have to eat out. Or you come home to a made from scratch, healthy delicious meal that all you need to do is warm it up!

Palate Sensations doesn’t just offer meal prep services we offer, small dinner parties, corporate catering, micro weddings and children’s birthday parties!

I know you can go get food from anywhere but what sets Palate Sensations apart from others in my humble opinion is my personality and my passion to cook good food! Not only is my  personality a selling point but the freshness of ingredients; it makes a HUGE difference and clients can taste it in every bite.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Going to culinary school and learning from great chefs as well as the curriculum being top knotch truly set me apart from others. I definitely believe people should get some sort of training if they aspire to be a chef. Although school was needed I actually feel like hands on (after I graduated) was where I really started to hone in on my skills as a chef.

Personable- Not everyone is going to be able to taste your food before you cook for them so first impressions when you talk to them is key! You need to be able to have a radiant personality that can beam through the phone where they gain a connection with you.

Flexible- Being a personal chef you have to be able to easily adapt at all times.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Wow, that’s a hard one but honestly I would put the business second and family first. Of course I would still have the business but the goal would be making lasting memories with my two boys. I love what I do and that wouldn’t change but I am someone that hasn’t taken a day off since June 2022 so I would make sure I incorporated a nice family/work balance! We would sprinkle in a lot of traveling and tasting foods from around the world. I would start my own cooking show so that my kids could look back at it one day and have fond memories of their mother enjoying cooking with her two sons. With my business I would still put my blood, sweat and tears in it and hope to make a mark on every client I had for the next decade. I would also finally write my cookbook, hopefully several!
