We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Meaghan Kessman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Meaghan, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I think my resilience comes from living through moments where I’ve had no choice but to find strength. Losing my home in the Palisades fire just six months ago was one of those moments. It was heartbreaking; everything was gone in an instant. That kind of loss shakes you to your core, but it also forces you to focus on what truly matters. I leaned into what I’ve always believed: that calm and clarity can be created, even in the most chaotic situations.
That belief is also at the heart of my work. Helping people create organized, functional spaces isn’t just about tidying up. it’s about creating a sense of peace and stability, especially when life feels uncertain. Each time I see a client breathe easier in their new, simplified space, I’m reminded that resilience doesn’t mean having it all figured out. It means showing up, finding small ways to move forward, and choosing clarity even when things feel overwhelming.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
After spending 20 years in digital media, most of it at Pandora, I moved to London for three years with my family for my husband’s job. When we moved back, I knew I wanted to do something completely different – something that aligned with what I’ve always loved: organizing.
Two years ago, I launched my home organization business to help people create calm, functional spaces that truly support how they live. What I love most is seeing the difference it makes, not just in how a home looks, but in how it feels. Lately, I’ve been expanding into working with clients during renovations and new builds, helping design efficient, beautiful spaces right from the start.
Giving back is also really important to me. I volunteer with Defy Ventures, supporting currently and formerly incarcerated individuals as they rebuild their lives through entrepreneurship. It’s deeply meaningful to witness their resilience and drive. Being part of their transformation reminds me daily of the power of second chances and the role we all can play in building a more inclusive society.
I’m married, have two amazing kids, two dogs, and we’re about to begin rebuilding our Palisades home after losing it in the fire. This work, both personal and professional, continues to inspire and motivate me every day.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I think the three things that have really helped me most in this journey are adaptability, empathy, and learning to trust my gut.
Adaptability has been huge. I went from a long career in digital media to a few years off in London, and then into starting my own business in a completely different field. I’ve had to stay open, flexible, and willing to figure things out as I go. For anyone just starting out, don’t be afraid to try something new or go off the expected path. You learn a lot by simply doing.
Empathy is at the center of what I do. Whether I’m helping a client clear out a space or working with someone through Defy, being able to really listen and understand where they’re coming from makes all the difference. If you’re building something, lead with heart – it helps you build trust and real connections.
And finally, trusting my gut has been everything. When you’re starting something new, there’s a lot of noise – so many opinions and so much advice. I’ve learned that the more I listen to my own voice, the more confident and clear I feel. My advice? Pay attention to what feels right, even if it doesn’t make perfect sense on paper. Your instincts are usually onto something.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Looking ahead, I’m excited to keep growing in ways that feel meaningful and collaborative. I’ve really enjoyed working with interior designers and would love to continue partnering with more of them. There’s so much value in coming in early on a project, whether it’s a renovation or a new build, to help plan out systems that not only look great but actually make everyday life easier and more efficient.
I’m also really interested in working with companies that create organizational products. I use these tools all the time, so it feels like a natural fit to collaborate with brands that are thoughtful about both design and function. It’s important to me that what I recommend to clients actually works for their lifestyle – not just something that looks pretty on a shelf.
For me, it all comes back to creating spaces that feel calm, intentional, and easy to live in. That’s the goal, whether I’m working one-on-one with a client or collaborating behind the scenes on a larger project.
