Meet Meca Sica

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Meca Sica a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Meca, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
By surrounding myself around creatives like myself, they encourage me to keep striving for greatness and give me advice when needed. Sometimes when I feel like I’ve lost inspiration in my field of work or business is slow, I venture out of my comfort zone to network, while also meeting people within the creative world it’s always refreshing.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a Brooklyn-based braider looking to expand my business in Atlanta. I specialize in knotless braids, twists, locs as well as braids for men. I’ve been braiding since the age of 12, but professionally I can say I’ve been doing this for five years. As a child, art was always something that I loved, and now in my field of work, I’m creating my own. Making hair artistic and telling a story is the main focus. What’s most exciting about my craft is that each time I’m halfway complete with a style, clients get happy, and you can see a glow in them. I love that I can make someone’s day just by doing their hair. I’ll be moving to Atlanta in January 2024, so if anyone’s interested in collaborating or inquiring about a service in the Buckhead area, please email me at stitchednslick@gmail.com.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three areas of knowledge that are most impactful in my journey are trusting my gut, always being my biggest supporter, and having patience. My advice for those early in their journey is to give yourself grace and that time will go by fast, so don’t rush your craft. Stay consistent and always stay positive!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m looking to collaborate with Tyler Perry Studios. I would love to bring my work into the production world and do hair behind the scenes. Currently, I’m interested in the show Sistas and actresses Novi Brown, Mignon Von, KJ Smith, and Ebony Obsidian. If they come across this interview, I’d love for one of them to email me. It would be great to work behind the scenes as a hairstylist!
