We recently connected with Medalin Sanchez and have shared our conversation below.
Medalin, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I grew up in a small town in the Dominican Republic where community truly mattered. People looked out for one another—whether it was sharing a meal, lending a hand, or simply being present during difficult times. That deep sense of connection and support left a lasting impact on me from an early age.
My parents were instrumental in shaping my understanding of generosity. We didn’t have a lot, but we always had what we needed. They worked hard to provide for our family, and through their example, I learned the difference between having enough and wanting more. They showed me that generosity isn’t about wealth—it’s about presence, compassion, and showing up for others.
That foundation shaped the way I live and work today. Whether in business or personal life, I lead with heart. I believe in investing in people—through service, collaboration, and community. For me, generosity is deeply rooted in gratitude, and I carry that with me in everything I do.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Medalin, and I’m a 23-year-old entrepreneur fueled by hard work, purpose, and a passion for bringing joy to others. I earned my associate degree in Business Administration in December 2023, and I’m on track to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in Management in May 2025. Since I was 16, I’ve held roles in management and accounting—experiences that have shaped my discipline, decision-making, and mindset as a business owner.
I’m the founder of Island Mobile Bar, a mobile bartending service that brings a high-end bar experience directly to clients’ events. What excites me most about this work is creating ease and joy for my clients. From custom cocktail menus to full-service setups, my team and I handle the details so our clients can be fully present in their celebrations. Seeing guests enjoy themselves and knowing I had a part in making that happen is what motivates me every day.
Looking ahead, I’m expanding Island Mobile Bar to include coffee service—an exciting new venture that allows us to serve a broader range of events, from farmers markets and brunches to corporate gatherings. It’s all about crafting memorable, elevated experiences.
At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to service, growth, and showing up with intention. I’m proud to build a brand that’s rooted in care, creativity, and community.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that have had the greatest impact on my journey are hard work, consistency, and a willingness to learn.
Hard work has always been part of who I am. I’ve been working since I was 16, juggling jobs, school, and now running my own business. It’s not always easy, but staying consistent—showing up day after day, even when it’s tough—has been key to making progress.
Equally important is staying open to learning. I’ve never been afraid to ask questions or seek guidance. Whether it’s gaining business knowledge, improving my services, or connecting with fellow entrepreneurs, I truly believe growth happens when we stay curious, humble, and eager to evolve.
If I could offer advice to anyone just starting out, it would be this: never give up on your dreams. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or make mistakes. Being an entrepreneur is challenging, but you’re never alone. Others have walked the same path, and there’s always a way forward—you just have to keep going.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
The biggest area of growth for me over the past year has been patience. I’ve learned that success doesn’t happen overnight—everything meaningful takes time. As someone who’s always been driven and goal-oriented, it was initially difficult to accept that some things are beyond my control and that progress can be gradual.
This past year, I’ve become more intentional about trusting the process. I’ve learned to slow down, stay present, and focus on building step by step. Embracing patience has allowed me to enjoy the journey more, rather than being consumed by the finish line. It’s helped me grow not only as a business owner but also as a person.
