We were lucky to catch up with Meg Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Meg, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I was very shy when I was younger. I kept to myself and did not talk to people very much. I was scared of people’s opinions of me or afraid that they would make fun of me. Which is a terrible burden for a young child and I am not sure where that mentality stemmed from. My parents and family were supportive and loving. They encouraged me to do be who I wanted to be. I knew that I was determined. I knew that I needed to overcome by shyness and being scared. I knew that I needed skills that would help bring me out of my shell. In one of my teen magazines, I saw an add for the Teen Pennsylvania pageant with the USA pageant system. When I saw the ad, I knew that this would be my first step to becoming the person I wanted to be. A person who was confident, poised, and out-going. I was successful in my first pageant in that I learned so much about myself and walked away with my self-esteem elevated. I continued my journey by going to modeling school and participating in more pageants. I definitely can say that those decisions as a young girl laid down the path to success. I knew that one day I would become the person I needed to be. I may not always be confident in all aspects of my life but I know that I can overcome that. I know that with a little perseverance, I can be successful..
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a family nurse care practitioner, an etiquette consultant, author, and speaker. I am also the founder of PeriodPower Pantry, a non-profit that provides menstrual supplies to schools, foster care, and women’s shelters. I also created the G.E.M. workshop. G.E.M. stands for Girls Empowerment Movement. I hold quarterly seminars that teach about self-esteem, coping and leadership skills. I am the current Mrs. Texas Petite with the USA Petite pageant system. I will be competing for the national title of Mrs. USA Petite in August in Milwaukee, WI.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Fearlessness, Perseverance, and Compassionate are qualities that made a huge impact on my journey. My advice is to never give up on your dreams. Your dreams should be the driving force of your journey. Discover what steps you will need to take to achieve your dream and follow them! If you stumble, look at it as a learning opportunity, adjust your plan, and keep on going.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am also looking for people to collaborate with either on my podcasts, volunteer opportunities, and speaking events. If you are in pageantry and want to tell your positive and uplifting story, let me know. If you have a courageous positive message, I want to hear from you.
As founder of PeriodPower Pantry, we are always looking for schools and organizations to donate our period packs to.
Lastly, as Mrs. Texas Petite, I am looking for opportunities to volunteer and partner with.
