We were lucky to catch up with Megan Cook recently and have shared our conversation below.
Megan, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
From my first job at the age of 16, I distinguished myself as a dedicated employee, consistently putting forth 100% effort and striving to make each day productive and successful. While I never deeply analyzed the origins of my strong work ethic, it undoubtedly stems from my parents, both of whom have exemplified hard work since childhood. I recall my mother sharing stories about working at the family diner when she was just 15, a commitment she has maintained without pause throughout her life. Similarly, my father has always demonstrated unwavering dedication, including his service in the Air Force. Upon reflection, I realize that I rarely see my parents without their work, often finding both parents engaged with their computers late into the night. Nevertheless, they have managed to maintain a commendable balance in their lives; despite their relentless work ethic, they consistently dedicated time to me, ensuring that my childhood was filled with joy and memorable experiences.
I believe that, subconsciously, I have observed and admired my parents’ strong work ethic throughout the years. Their dedication has significantly influenced my own work ethic, which I consider one of my most valuable qualities and a fundamental aspect of my life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
To introduce myself, I am a senior at the Savannah College of Art and Design, pursuing a degree in Business of Beauty and Fragrance. My career aspirations lie in marketing and brand development. Currently, I am engaged in my senior capstone project, where we identify a gap within the beauty industry and develop a brand to address it. I am particularly enthusiastic about this project, as it integrates all my passions and will serve as a significant addition to my portfolio.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have a strong interest in content creation. While I do not adhere to a specific niche, I enjoy sharing a variety of posts that bring me joy. I love creating videos that focus on beauty, lifestyle, and culinary experiences. My objectives are to persist in this endeavor and expand my online presence.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my college experience, I identify three key factors that facilitated my journey. First and foremost is the willingness to embrace discomfort and put myself in new situations. Relocating to a different state and attending a new school can be challenging; however, I discovered that engaging in campus activities was the most effective way to forge connections. Over the years, I attended various events—often on my own—and found these experiences to be immensely educational. As an individual who grapples with social anxiety, I have found that one of the most effective strategies for managing it is to expose myself to social situations. Additionally, when it comes to building friendships, simply inviting someone for coffee can be a surprising opportunity to potentially meet your future best friend.
One significant lesson I learned is the importance of valuing myself. Understanding self-worth and practicing self-care took time, but once I grasped these concepts, everything began to align. I started to reflect on the activities that brought me joy and embraced them wholeheartedly. This introspection fostered the development of new passions and facilitated a deeper understanding of myself. Moreover, recognizing one’s self-worth has far-reaching effects. It positively influences various aspects of daily life, enhancing the quality of friendships, fostering healthier relationships, and improving mental well-being. Ultimately, prioritizing oneself leads to overall life improvement.
The third significant impact on my journey has been the realization of the importance of ceasing comparisons with others. Throughout my academic career, I frequently measured myself against my peers regarding opportunities, projects, and even their attire. In an environment filled with vibrant personalities, it can be challenging to feel valued and significant. It’s all too easy to become lost in the crowd and perceive oneself as average.I am actively working on understanding that each individual’s story is unique. While it may seem easy to compare our progress to the successes of others, we often overlook the dedication and effort they might have invested to reach their current status.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Recently, I began reading “The Five AM Club” by Robin Sharma, initially unsure of what to expect. Although I enjoy reading, I typically do not gravitate toward self-help literature. However, this book presents a compelling framework for enhancing one’s life, focusing on the power of mornings and daily habits.
One concept that particularly resonates with me is the Four Inner Quadrants: Mindset, Heartset, Soulset, and Healthset. These quadrants represent the four dimensions of self-improvement, emphasizing the importance of nurturing each aspect to foster personal growth.
Another valuable insight I gained from the reading is “your old mindset must die before your new one can begin”. Essentially, if you continue your old ways and habits, new ones won’t be able to form. Transformation begins when you’re ready to embrace a new lifestyle.
I appreciate the book’s accessibility, allowing readers to easily grasp its principles and implement them into their own lives. If you are seeking motivation to rise early or are ready to embark on a transformative journey, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
