Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Megan Crowell Abbey Orozco. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Megan Crowell, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
For Megan, overcoming imposter syndrome began when life gave her no other choice. Working in the service industry, she knew it was not where she was meant to be long term. Working into the wee hours of the night and other factors made it not a good fit for her if she wanted to grow her family. When the pandemic hit and the service industry closed, Megan had the time, space and opportunity to start listening to her heart and moving in the direction she wanted to go. She dove headfirst into working for Blue Loon Concessions (who she’d already worked for seasonally for 8 years and still currently does). She learned so much through these years; advancing her business management mindset, as she knew she always needed to be her own boss and work for herself. Through starting Bubba Pie Scrub Company, Megan is able to create skincare products with her family in mind, searching for the best ingredients and recipes to provide quality products to those who want to put themselves first.
For Abbey, overcoming imposter syndrome has been a continuous battle. As a collegiate athlete, Abbey believed her path was to continue with Exercise Science with the end goal of becoming a Physical Therapist or an Athletic Trainer. In her senior year of college, through the help of a therapist, she was able to find a new path that followed her passions as a human, and gained her Master’s of Social Work. Through that decision, Abbey has been able to work with kids and their families at a high level of care, ensuring that kids get the mental health care they need. Through the years of providing higher level of care therapy, Abbey has continued to overcome the voice in her head telling her she does not know what she is doing, where she is going, or if she should be where she is. Now, as an LICSW, Supervisor, and Business Partner, Abbey has been able to acknowledge that she is exactly where she needs to be, and is able to focus on providing opportunities for others to care for themselves.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Bubba Pie Scrub Co. was established at a Sip & Shop, where Abbey and Megan were inspired by the sellers. In one night over red wine: a recipe, name, and idea was born.
Bubba Pie is named after Megan’s kids: Bubba is the nickname for her son, and Pie for her daughter. Creating Bubba Pie Scrub Co. was a way for Abbey and Megan to produce selfcare and skincare products that have good ingredients that make you feel good on the outside and give you piece of mind on the inside.
The main product is the sugar scrub, made to help exfoliate and moisturize skin, with added benefits of the various essential oils.
The secondary product is the bath soak. A mixture of three different salts, and essential oils, used to help detoxify, relax, rejuvenate, and more.
The newest product is the whipped tallow balm. A moisturizing balm made of grass-fed beef tallow, carrier oil, and essential oils.
While creating products, we look to find ingredients that give the most benefit to the body, while allowing for ease on the mind.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. We are continuously learning, we do not pretend to know it all, or feel we are at our peak.
2. We ask questions of those around us, using others as a sense of support.
3. We have fun, we enjoy creating these products, being together, and bringing joy to people who use our products.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Our biggest challenge is finding a way to promote and elevate our brand and our products. We are working to reach as many people as possible, and hoping to establish products that draw people in, create a sense of self-love, well-being, and entice people to be repeat customers. We want to be more than just sugar scrubs, and are working to become an established brand and company that people know and can rely on.
