We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan Frongillo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.
Megan, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
In marketing, it is easy to feel burned out and fall victim to constantly chasing the next big idea. To keep my creativity alive, I find inspiration in everyday moments. I take breaks from work to go on walks and clear my mind, do the things I love (like playing with my pets) reading books that introduce me to new perspectives, and consuming different types of content. For me, the more content I consume, the more inspired I feel.
Creativity comes in waves, so it’s important not to be too hard on yourself if you’re feeling stuck. One of my favorite ways to break out of a creative rut is writing three pages of stream-of-consciousness in the morning. It clears my mind and makes space for new ideas.
I really love creating content whether it’s capturing videos or taking pictures, the more I do it, the more inspired I feel.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I work at a marketing agency, Build You Marketing, as a Senior Account Manager. This means I wear a lot of different hats, from content creation (editing videos, graphic design, website design, photography, etc.) to copywriting and event marketing/coordination. Every day looks a little different, and I love the variety that comes with the role.
My position allows me to be hands-on in every aspect of marketing, which is very different from a traditional corporate job where everything is clearly laid out. I have the freedom to experiment with new strategies, test creative ideas, and work directly with clients to bring their visions to life. It’s fast-paced, but that’s what keeps it exciting.
Coming up, we are expanding the company with a new division fully focused on restaurant marketing. Stay tuned!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
While I am still early in my career and learning every day, I think the most important qualities that have helped me so far are my creativity, curiosity, and determination.
Ever since I was young, I’ve always had a creative side. I was the “director” of my cousins’ movies when we were kids. I would even edit the videos (they weren’t good, but the vision was there!).
My curiosity has helped me refine my skills as I am constantly watching YouTube videos, Googling ways to improve, and looking for new tools and techniques that will make my work even better.
When I take on a project, I want to do my best. My determination to get the job done correctly and effectively has definitely helped me in my career. The clients I work with can see my passion, which has allowed me to build strong relationships and deliver work that makes a difference.
My advice for people just starting out in their careers is to put yourself out there. Even if you feel like you don’t have the skills right now, the more you work on it, the better you’ll get. I love the quote “life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” As scary as it is to take that first step, you never know what opportunities will come your way if you don’t.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been my leadership skills. I’ve taken on a larger role in managing client accounts, becoming the lead/manager on several projects.
I have also stepped into a leadership role by managing our internship program. Mentoring interns has strengthened my ability to delegate, provide constructive feedback, and create a supportive learning environment. Taking on this responsibility has been both challenging and rewarding, and it’s something I’m excited to continue developing.
These experiences have pushed me outside my comfort zone, but they’ve also reinforced my confidence as a leader. Being a leader isn’t just about overseeing tasks, it’s about empowering others and continuously learning. Moving forward, I am excited to keep building these skills and take on even bigger challenges.
