We were lucky to catch up with Megan Libe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I’ve had a strong work ethic from a young age. I started working when I was 16 as a dietary aide and waitress in my hometown of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Earning my own money early on taught me responsibility and independence—whether it was for gas, shopping, or just having the freedom to support myself. I also became a mom at 18, which pushed me even harder to succeed and build a stable life for my daughter.
While my parents were always supportive, nothing was ever handed to me—I’ve worked for everything I have. I’ve spent 14 years in the hospitality industry, and I genuinely love working hard and building something from the ground up. That drive helped me grow The Tipsy Travelers from 11 events in our first year in 2021 to over 80 events annually, serving weddings, private parties, and more across Iowa.
Now, I’m taking that same passion into my newest venture: a brick-and-mortar bar and restaurant called *Libations on Iowa*, opening this summer in downtown Washington. I’ve always believed if you want something, you work for it—and that’s exactly what I’ve done.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi! I’m Megan Libe, owner of The Tipsy Travelers mobile bar. I live in Keota, Iowa with my 16-year-old daughter, four amazing bonus kids, four dogs, and a handful of mini goats! My husband and I also run a livestock hauling business—so life is never boring around here.
I’ve always loved being part of the hospitality industry, especially when it comes to weddings. There’s something special about helping couples celebrate one of the biggest days of their lives. Whether it’s a rustic barn wedding or an elegant backyard bash, I work closely with each bride and groom to make sure their bar service is exactly what they envisioned.
The Tipsy Travelers started with just 11 events in 2021, and now we serve over 80 events a year all across Iowa. From weddings to bachelorette parties and everything in between, we love helping people celebrate.
And now, I’m excited to take the next step—opening *Libations on Iowa*, a downtown bar and restaurant coming to Washington, Iowa later this summer. I can’t wait to welcome friends, family, and our amazing community through the doors!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Work Ethic & Resilience
Customer-Centered Service & Hospitality
Event & Bar Logistics Expertise
My advice,
Start small, but stay consistent. Take every job seriously—no matter how small the event—and treat it like an opportunity to build your reputation. There will be long hours and tough days, but showing up with a positive attitude and doing the work builds trust, referrals, and confidence.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who’s easygoing, communicative, and excited to celebrate. Whether they know exactly what they want for their bar or need a little guidance, I love working with couples who trust the process and are open to ideas. I especially enjoy helping those who aren’t sure where to start—because that’s where I shine, creating a personalized bar experience that fits their vision, vibe, and budget. It’s all about collaboration, not stress!
