Meet Megan Nilsen

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan Nilsen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.

Hi Megan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

For years, I lived faithfully in the various roles entrusted to me: wife, mother of four, school counselor, bible study leader, mentor, and friend. I poured myself into people, listening deeply, offering wisdom, and creating safe spaces where others could process life.

I loved all of it and yet, there was a quiet question lingering in my heart: “Is there more God is asking of me?”

That whisper grew louder as seasons shifted – kids got older, my nest slowly emptied, and old dreams began stirring again. Through the stillness of prayer and journaling (and, let’s be honest, flat out wrestling with God), I realized something: the very thing I loved most – listening for God’s voice and helping others do the same – wasn’t just my volunteer, on-the-side passion, it was my purpose.

Where did it all start?

When we adopted our youngest two children from Ethiopia twelve years ago and everyone’s world turned upside down, I began to write. This writing became a form of personal therapy that not only helped me untangle my own thoughts, it resonated with others as well. I learned I could put words to what others were feeling and help them find clarity and peace.

From there, I wrote my first book, became a mentor-style life coach, and launched a podcast. Not to add noise to the world, but to invite women into the same clarity I had found: that life makes sense only when aligned with God’s heart. Currently, my seminary studies are adding depth to this incredible purpose. My coaching brings insight and transformation and my books and podcast give people a tangible way to encounter God’s voice and guidance for themselves.

As I look back over the winding road—through motherhood, adoption, ministry, personal struggles, and seasons of waiting—I realize every twist prepared me for this. My true purpose isn’t something I found out of nowhere; it is something God has been growing in me all along!

Now, I live it out boldly: empowering women to anchor their identity in Christ, hear His voice clearly, and take courageous, faith-filled action. This isn’t to say I don’t have (many) days where doubt and imposter syndrome creep in, but I’ve learned to silence the inner-critic and proceed with confidence because I know God has called me to this. I truly believe that when you get honest about where you are and tune your heart to heaven’s frequency, you discover the life you were always meant to live.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I often tell people that God uses every chapter of our story to prepare us for the work He’s called us to do. For years, my primary focus was raising my four kids—two biological and two adopted from Ethiopia—while also working part time in various roles from school counselor, to MomCo director, to non-profit communications. I can see how all of these roles were rooted in listening, guiding, and creating safe spaces for people to grow. Looking back, I believe each of those experiences shaped the work I do today.

Now, I’m a Kingdom life coach, author, and podcast host. My passion is helping Christian women learn to hear God’s voice so they can flourish in their unique calling and purpose. The most exciting part of this work is watching women discover that they don’t have to hustle or strive to “figure it all out”—God is already speaking. My role is to create space, ask thoughtful questions, and point them back to His presence. Then, when they are zeroing in on the bulls-eye, I help them strategize the steps to walk it out.

What makes my brand unique is the way it blends spiritual depth with practical life coaching. I’m not about quick fixes or surface-level encouragement. Whether through my books like Untangled Faith, my coaching, or my podcast, my heart is to equip women with rhythms and tools they can use in everyday life to discern God’s voice, align with His wisdom, and take courageous action.

Right now, I’m especially excited about the growth happening in my podcast content and listenership as well as the new writings that will undoubtedly stem from my new seminary journey. I felt like God said, “If you want to write more, you need to know more!” So I’m leaning into deeper study, planting seeds for whatever harvest emerges in the future.

I’m also excited about a brand new 30-day Grace and Truth devotional sequence I’m offering that was inspired by an incredible concept called: charitable orthodoxy. In essence, we’re at an intense time in the church as it relates to sharing thoughts and ideas on social media. On one hand grace without truth leaves us adrift, and truth without grace crushes the spirit. Where does that leave us? I would love to see a mobilized church who operate in right belief (Christ crucified and resurrected) and lavish love (learning to listen and really see other people’s perspectives). I believe Christ is our ultimate model and this study allows the reader to soak in Scriptural passages that model what this could look like for us.

At the end of the day, my hope is simple: that my life and my work reflect the truth that you can live a deeply connected, Spirit-led life in the middle of your very real, very human story.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that shaped my journey the most were listening, perseverance, and a willingness to grow.

Long before I was a coach or author, I was a school counselor and a mom – and in both roles, listening was everything. Not just listening to people’s words, but to their hearts, to their stories, and most importantly, to God’s voice. I believe learning to pause, be present, and truly hear what’s being said (and sometimes what isn’t) has been the foundation of my work. For anyone starting out, I’d say: practice the art of listening every day. Put your phone down (which isn’t always easy for me to do), make eye contact, ask one more question. Teenagers may not respond to the question outright. In fact, they will likely roll their eyes. But they do feel the impact of that love and you’ll be amazed at the doors that open (eventually) when people feel seen and heard.

The journey has not always been easy. There were seasons of exhaustion, doubt, and plenty of false starts. But choosing to stay the course – to keep showing up, writing, podcasting, and coaching even when I wasn’t sure anyone was paying attention – built endurance in me. I’d say, don’t despise small beginnings. Keep planting seeds, even when the harvest feels far away. When we stay connected to the vine the fruit will come. And sometimes the fruit comes after a painful season of pruning.

I’ve never wanted to “arrive.” After all, a fixed destination would be boring, right?! Whether it’s through seminary studies, working with coaches, or simply being open to feedback, I’ve learned that humility and curiosity go hand in hand. Growth requires being teachable. For those at the beginning of their journey, I’d encourage you to invest in yourself. Read widely, find mentors, take risks, spend the money necessary for growth, and stay open to God shaping you in unexpected ways.

At the end of the day, it’s not about having all the answers but about being faithful with what’s in your hands right now and trusting that God will multiply it.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is a Kingdom-minded, faith-filled woman who knows there’s more to life than just going through the motions. She’s likely in a season of transition – maybe her kids are growing up, she’s navigating a new stage of career or calling, or she’s simply feeling that holy restlessness that says, “There has to be more.”

What makes her “ideal” is not that she has it all figured out – it’s actually the opposite. She’s hungry. She’s open. She’s willing to lean in and do the inner work of listening for God’s voice and aligning her actions with His leading. She doesn’t just want quick encouragement that fades by tomorrow; she wants lasting clarity and practical tools she can carry into everyday life.

For my coaching clients, this often looks like women who have a God-given dream or message but feel stuck, tangled in self-doubt, or unsure how to move forward. For my readers and podcast listeners, it’s women who crave spiritual depth but also appreciate a practical, relatable voice guiding them through the ups and downs of faith and life. And for those who journey through my devotionals, it’s anyone longing for fresh rhythms to connect with God and live anchored in His truth.

At the end of the day, the women I serve are growth-minded seekers. They’re not content to stay in the fog – they want clarity, courage, and peace. And they’re willing to mine a bit deeper in their souls and take the next faithful step toward living the life God has designed for them.
