Meet Megan Piccione

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Megan Piccione a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Megan, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I have learned that I cannot change what’s happened to me; I know I cannot forget it. But I can change my reaction to it, and that is what makes me resilient in everything else that I do – because I know I will survive the chaos no matter what. I believe so fiercely that I am deserving of what I want out of life, and I refuse to give in to blockades, no matter how big or small they present. I have been through hell and back, and I survived all of it. My fearlessness is knowing that I’ve already experienced the worst of it, so everything else will be gravy.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am owner and founder of Megan Piccione High Jewelry (MPJ) in Beachwood, Ohio. MPJ is a private, by-appointment-only high jewelry concierge and boutique specializing in custom design and manufacturing. This concept is very different from your everyday jewelry stores in that we reserve private appointments for clients in the showroom to collaborate together on creating their custom piece of jewelry – and then manufacture it ourselves. No part of production is out-sourced. Every element of the labor is completed by me, a 100% female-owned company.

MPJ is a one-stop shop for all jewelry needs in addition to the concierge services. We also specialize in sourcing ultra-rare fancy color diamonds, offering ready-to-wear fashion in the boutique, and manufacturing bespoke bridal all in one shop. We are so proud to have a Graduate Gemologist, Master Watchmaker, and Clockmaster on our team to truly handle every aspect of the client’s needs. My favorite part: that guy is my dad!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Passion: when you get a natural high from doing your job, or get excited to go to work in the morning, the quality of your work becomes unmatched, and your clients will take notice. The excitement from doing your job will reach your customers and they will feed off that energy.

Grace: keeping your head held high in moments of uncertainty, conflict, or tragedy. I have learned that carrying myself with poise, understanding, and grace have actually gotten me further than I would have if I chose to get angry, spiteful, or hopeless. Grace in business, and life in general, is essential for fostering positive relationships, building trust, and creatively collaborating. Ultimately, it cultivates loyalty, smooths over misunderstandings, and strengthens long-term success.

Comparison is the thief of joy. If I compared myself, my brand, or my appearance to anyone else, I would not only be devaluing what makes me different or special, but I’d also be demotivating myself from furthering my career. Remember: only YOU are capable of selling YOUR product/self/concept. Someone else selling theirs in a different way does NOT mean you are doing it wrong. It means you are doing it the way your market would benefit from it.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My father has been the most influential person in my business to me. He was the 2nd generation jeweler of the family and the man that I have studied under for my entire life. I watched him build his company over decades and have seen it soar to heights unimaginable to a realist. But he has always been a dreamer, and I luckily got that gene from him. I, too, dream of the possibilities of what my business could turn into, and thank G-d my dad sees the sparkle in my eye and is helping me every single day to achieve my goals. And, he’s SO talented at the jeweler’s bench! What this man can do with a piece of string is simply genius.
