Meet Megan Vice

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Megan Vice a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I would say I get my work ethic from both my parents.
My mom ran her own business for over 30 years which showed me what it means to be entrepreneurial and dedicated. It taught me independence and the value of hard work.
My dad, who was a CFO of a printing company, showed me discipline and responsibility.
Together they gave me a mix of drive, focus, and ambition – qualities I feel fuel a strong work ethic.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the owner and sole hairstylist in my salon.
Being a hairstylist is more than just cutting and coloring hair, it’s an art, a science, and a way of connecting with people. Everyday is different; each client always has a different transformation. Our industry is always evolving and changing which makes it constantly exciting and new.
One of my favorite things about being a hairstylist is that i make people feel confident and I get to build relationships with all different kinds of people.
I get to make people feel like their best selves and that’s pretty special.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Communication is a huge quality that has impacted me – being able to talk to people and making them feel comfortable and open up.
Learning to market myself, my precision, and my artistry has also been key.
By most importantly, always be patient with yourself!

My advice is to always be a student; remain open and willing to try new techniques in this ever changing business. Ask clients questions to be sure what they want and explain confidently.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

The book that has played an important role in my development is “Who Moved My Cheese” by Dr. Spencer Johnson. A few valuable nuggets of wisdom it provided for me was: change is inevitable, don’t get too comfortable and be ready to adapt.
Let go of fear because it can paralyze you; move forward and take action.
Visualize success and positive outcomes will be more attainable.
