Meet Megan Wilder

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan Wilder. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.

Megan, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I think the main thing that helped me to develop my confidence and self-esteem, especially in my career, was doing a lot of introspection and really figuring out exactly what I want to say, how I want to say it, and what that looks and sounds like. There’s such a sense of clarity and empowerment that comes from getting to know yourself really well again and being true to who that person is. When I started living for that person and not the person I thought everyone else wanted me to be, the confidence immediately followed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi! My name is Megan Wilder and I’m a singer/songwriter based in Nashville, TN. I’ve been in Nashville for about 6 years now, gigging full time while pursuing a career in songwriting as well as working on my own artist project. Something that I think is so special about being in a place like Nashville is how much opportunity there is to learn and to grow and the people that you meet in the process. I feel like I’m constantly meeting new people that inspire me so much in my own journey. I’m currently working on the next batch of releases and I’m really excited for people to hear what I’ve been working on over the last year.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Resilience is a big one because you’re going to hear “no” a lot and it’s really easy to take that personally because usually what people are saying “no” to is coming from a pretty vulnerable place on your end. But learning to reframe that “no” as a “not yet” and keep going has been very helpful because you come back a little stronger and it hurts less and less each time.

Another one would be vocal health. I believe that it’s so important to understand what that sounds and feels like and it’s had such a positive impact on my career and just overall experience as a singer. I’m really fortunate to have grown up taking voice lessons and learning from some really incredible vocal coaches. For anyone that’s maybe just starting out in their singing journey or maybe you’re further into it but you just don’t know a lot about vocal health, I would highly recommend getting a vocal coach. They will teach you everything you need to know about how to take care of your voice and that knowledge is invaluable in my opinion.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I think I briefly mentioned this in another question but I’ve been doing a lot of self reflection and deep digging the past year or so, and with that has come so much clarity and confidence in who I am as an artist, what I want to say with my music, and what that looks like and sounds like. So I guess just really solidifying my brand and who Megan Wilder is to the rest of the world has been my biggest area of growth.
