We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Megan Williamson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Megan, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Finding my purpose in photography and business didn’t happen overnight—it was a journey that took years of perseverance, self-discovery, and faith. My story starts with a challenge: being diagnosed with dyslexia in the first grade. I was held back, placed in special education, saw specialists outside of school, and spent countless hours learning how to overcome the hurdles that dyslexia presented. Despite the difficulties, my parents and teachers never allowed my diagnosis to be an excuse not to learn. Instead, they pushed me to do my very best, no matter how hard it was.

Their unwavering belief in me paid off. By the time I was in fifth grade, I was reading at a high school level—a rare feat for someone with dyslexia—and even more remarkably, I developed a love for reading. I can still recall classmates asking me for help with their homework. It was during this period that I began to realize something profound: my success wouldn’t be determined by a label or diagnosis, but by how hard I was willing to work.

This mindset carried me through college, where I chose to major in Marketing. At the time, I wasn’t sure what career I wanted to pursue, but I knew I had a passion for understanding people, business, and entrepreneurship. One of my favorite classes was small business entrepreneurship, which planted the seeds for what would later become my career.

With a love for photography and a growing interest in business, starting my own photography business after college felt like a natural step. It provided the perfect balance—allowing me to do what I loved while being a stay-at-home mom to my two children. For years, I focused on wedding photography, but it wasn’t until I transitioned into branding and architectural photography that I truly discovered my God-given purpose.

Helping businesses define their brand, creating images and videos that elevate their presence, and witnessing them grow into successful ventures made me realize that this is what I’m meant to do. My calling is more than just taking photographs—it’s about coaching and empowering others to see the potential within themselves and their businesses.

In a world that often tries to define you by your struggles, I’ve learned that your challenges don’t have to limit you—they can fuel you. Thanks to the early lessons instilled in me by my parents, I never saw dyslexia as a reason to stop trying. Instead, I embraced hard work, built a business I love, and now I help others do the same. My mission is to inspire entrepreneurs to believe in themselves, push past their own limitations, and realize that success is within their reach—no matter what obstacles they face.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I specialize in architectural photography, capturing spaces in a way that brings out their unique character and story. Whether it’s real estate, vacation rentals, or custom homes, I believe that every image I create is more than just a photo—it’s a branding tool. Each space I photograph represents a chance for my clients to attract future buyers, renters, or homeowners by showcasing the best of what they offer. In today’s visual-driven world, high-quality images are essential in making a strong first impression, and I love being able to help my clients stand out in their market.

What excites me most about architectural photography is the challenge of bringing a property to life through images. I enjoy playing with light, angles, and composition to highlight a space’s best features and create photos that are not only beautiful but also highly effective in driving interest. Every project is different, whether it’s a sleek modern home, a cozy vacation rental, or a large commercial property, and that variety keeps my work fresh and exciting.

Something I’d like people to know about my brand is that I approach each project with the mindset that these photos are part of my client’s larger story. These aren’t just static shots—they’re opportunities to help businesses grow, attract the right clientele, and build trust. I’m not just capturing spaces; I’m helping my clients communicate their value in a visually compelling way.

As for what’s new, I’m excited to announce that I’m expanding my services to include branding strategy consultations. In addition to creating high-quality visuals, I’ll be working with clients to help them clarify their messaging, define their audience, and build a cohesive brand identity. This expansion is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time because I’ve seen how much value it can bring to entrepreneurs who are looking to grow.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I believe that these three key qualities had the most significant impact on my journey.

Perseverance:
Growing up with dyslexia, I learned early on that challenges are inevitable, but persistence is what turns obstacles into opportunities. There were countless moments when I could have given up, but I kept pushing forward. Whether it was improving my reading skills as a child, getting through some of my college courses or learning the ropes of running a business as an adult, perseverance was crucial. My advice for anyone early in their journey is to embrace setbacks as part of the process. Success isn’t about never failing—it’s about how many times you’re willing to get back up.

Adaptability:
In both business and life, things rarely go exactly as planned. When I started my photography business, I focused on general photography, but over time, I found my passion in architectural photography and branding. Being open to change and willing to pivot allowed me to discover what I truly love. My advice is to stay flexible. Be open to new opportunities and willing to shift directions if something feels more aligned with your passion and strengths.

Commitment to Lifelong Learning:
Whether it was learning photography, marketing, or business strategy, I’ve always been eager to expand my knowledge. Even now, I’m constantly seeking ways to improve my craft and better serve my clients. For those early in their journey, I recommend adopting a growth mindset. Invest time in learning, whether through books, courses, or mentorship, and never assume you’ve learned everything there is to know. Staying curious and continuously developing your skills will set you apart in any field.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is someone who genuinely values their business and cares about how it is presented to potential clients. They prioritize thoughtful marketing, authenticity, and building a brand that people trust. These clients are kind, forward-thinking, and always seeking ways to grow and expand. They aren’t focused on making a quick dollar—instead, they’re dedicated to creating a lasting, reputable business with long-term success in mind.
