We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meggie Fritz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meggie below.
Meggie, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I think I was born with a certain drive to do well and achieve the goals I set for myself. I do not like to be bored and so I find myself constantly coming up with new ideas or goals to work on. Whenever I find myself with free time that means I need to find a new project to work on – whether that is in business or a chore around home.
Then, my parents certainly taught me to “do it right the first time” as well as the importance of making a commitment. Whatever my task is, I am going to be sure it is finished correctly. If something doesn’t come out the way it is supposed to, you better believe I will start over and make it right. Not sure if that is always a good thing…

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the co-owner of SunScarlet UPF, along with my sister, Caitlin. Our brand makes sun protection clothing for women that is actually cute enough to wear for everyday occasions. Along with the sun protection (everything has UPF 50+), our clothing also has a cooling effect, is anti-odor, and is easy to wash and wear.
We started this brand because we really started noticing the effect the sun has on our skin (re: aging) as we entered our 30s and needed an easy way to protect from harmful UV rays. The brands that existed that sold UPF clothing had no options that were attractive, none the less would you be able to wear them inconspicuously.
I personally really dislike the feeling and smell of sunscreen on my body, but knew I needed to keep the sun of my chest, back, and arms in order to keep my skin as beautiful as possible. If I was going to spend so much time and money on skincare for my face, it just wouldn’t make sense to neglect everything from the neck down.
With my experience working in menswear where they had amazing fabrics for golf polos and fishing shirts, we took that fabric knowledge and made silhouettes that looked great on women. So now we offer stylish women’s apparel that has the amazing technical factors to be comfortable and versatile for almost any daily activity. Think sports sidelines, walking the dog, running errands, and sunny weekend plans with friends.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
First of all, my advice is that every job is providing you with experience and skills whether you can see it or not. Every job I have had in the past has taught me at least something that I use in business today, and there have been a few jobs I hated!
My first most obvious quality is my experience working in fashion. This one is self explanatory for the business I run today. I am lucky to know ins and outs design and production, costing, and retail.
Then it would be the other small companies I have worked for in the past that I am lucky to have as examples of what life and business is like as a tiny company. It’s a lot of fun and excitement, and also the kind of stress that keeps you up at night!
Lastly, a quality that has led me to open and run my own business is a bit of delusional determination. Meaning I get an idea in my head and go after it no matter what. There will be no changing of my mind.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We are always looking to connect with other businesses or like-minded people! We are looking for retail and boutique partners where their customers would love our brand.
We are also always looking for new content creators who to work with us.
