Meet Meggie York

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meggie York. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meggie below.

Meggie, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

Like everyone else, I definitely experience burnout, even with my passions. To keep my creativity going, I find it important to step outside my usual routine—whether that’s traveling, meeting new people, or exposing myself to different perspectives. Pushing myself beyond my comfort zone is key. Without experiencing new things and connecting with fresh emotions, it’s difficult to grow as a songwriter and express deeper feelings. Taking the time to explore and reflect helps me to find those emotions within myself and bring them to my music.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a singer-songwriter originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. I’ve been living in Los Angeles for a little over two and a half years now, and I absolutely love it here. I’ve been singing since I was little, and I started sharing my music on Instagram, which helped me build a following. I also won a contest through iHeartRadio in Cincinnati and had the chance to open for some big artists touring through my city such as Why Don’t We, Logan Henderson from Big Time Rush, and Ava Max.

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Communication and Public Relations, I moved to LA to chase my music dreams, meet like-minded people, and network. Right now, I’m focusing on releasing new original music and collaborating with people in the electronic scene. I love showing people that it’s possible to follow your dreams while also pursuing your education and working in a corporate field that excites you as well.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that have been very impactful on my journey are determination, networking, and staying authentic. The industry can be tough, so reaching out to people who are already doing what you want to do can really help. You not only get to network, but you can also learn a lot from their experiences. Social media is huge now too, as it’s one of the best ways to get your music out there and connect with people. But at the end of the day, being authentic is key. People don’t just want to hear good music—they want to feel like they know the artist and can relate to them on a personal level.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m always open to collaboration, whether it’s for EDM features, co-writing, or working on my own pop project. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram at @meggieyorkmusic or email me at [email protected].
