We recently connected with Megha Jain and have shared our conversation below.
Megha , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
My journey started 15 years ago, as a 18 year old who wanted to pursue a career that was very different in the time. Coming from a conservative family, it was extremely hard to convey being a young female photographer in India ( a super conservative family in North India), especially when no women in our family had ever worked before or some of the smartest minds only topped the class but were never really given an opportunity to put that in practice. I was clueless when I started, I had no one to look up to, only my mother cheering hard for us (me & my sister) to stand somewhere, be self reliant in a society that only saw as having sons in the family as a normal family. The journey to date has been lots of trials, errors, failures and working harder and with even more passion and creativity in the ever changing & competitive creative space.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Megha Jain, a memory maker and photographer at Love Art House Photography. For the past fifteen years, I’ve had the privilege of working with couples, families, and individuals from across the world, capturing personal journeys and preserving memories for life’s special milestones. Recently, I’ve focused on creating meaningful memories for kids and families in my studio, and meeting beautiful babies every day fills my heart with happiness. Witnessing the details and emotions of each session brings endless joy. As I cherish these moments, I’m also taking more time to create beautiful memories for my own growing family.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Believe in Yourself – It sounds simple, yet it’s one of the hardest things to truly live by. There are days when the wait feels endless—waiting for someone to trust you for that one opportunity, hoping someone will recognize your art after you’ve poured every ounce of creativity and investment into it. But the belief in yourself must come from within, unwavering even through the quiet moments. Trust that the right people will find you.
Stay Persistent – Success in any creative field doesn’t come from big leaps alone; it’s the small, daily acts of giving your best, no matter how grand or modest the project. Stay open, keep growing, and continue stretching your horizons. In my journey, I explored every genre of photography, and even now, I’m constantly discovering new ideas. Every effort, every photo, is a step forward.
Find Your Purpose – Fifteen years may seem like a long time, but for me, it’s been a journey of rediscovery. Purpose is dynamic, evolving year by year, but the core of it remains steadfast. Embrace the shifts, and make the process one that inspires you to get up each day. When you live by purpose, it adds a spark to every moment and reminds you why you chose this path in the first place.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My family and husband are my greatest supporters. My family has been my rock, and my husband, my mentor, helped me build a whole castle. From the start, friends and extended family trusted me with their memories, and today, incredible clients continue to place their trust in me. I’m deeply grateful for every person who’s been part of this journey—each one has helped me grow and reach places I once only dreamed of.
