We recently connected with Meghan Magoun and have shared our conversation below.
Meghan , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I have always struggled with confidence issues, and low self-esteem. I believe majority of that really came from growing up in ballet, and being a short kid, with the “bigger than the average ballerina” body type. I would have teachers tell me at 9 years old that I would have to lose weight, and would get harassed about my shape into my teen, and even adult years. I would find a false sense of confidence through modeling and my relationships with men, who would compliment the way I looked, but it was always short lived, and I would find myself back in depressions where I would be really unkind to myself, and hating the way I looked. The only thing that has given me the confidence I have today, is by experiencing my journey, and being resilient to all of life’s struggles, and falling in love with myself from what I have on the inside, and seeing myself the way God sees me. Now I love myself from the inside out, and fully believe in my gifts and talents.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I came to LA to solely pursue dance, but God has had other plans for me. Through the dance world, I would have a series of hard life lessons that would branch me into searching for more outlets, and ways to fulfill my spirit. I’ve branched out in acting, choreographing having my own baking business, writing, and one of my biggest joys in life is motivating others, and spreading mental health awareness. I am currently planning a couple different projects, one about suicide prevention and another about domestic and sexual violence in the entertainment industry, both stemming from my own personal experiences.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My work ethic would definitely be number one. When I am in something, I will give 110% because I was trained in dance to give nothing less. Adaptability because the one certain thing in life is change. And my openness because God can bless you in ways that you can’t even imagine. My best advice to people is to give everything your full energy, love, and attention because even if it doesn’t come back to you in the way you expect, life will mirror that back to you in amazing ways.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
In the past year, I would say my biggest area of growth is the ability to let go and forgive, and take accountability for myself. So many people will hurt you along the way, but it doesn’t have to stop you from fully stepping into your purpose, and creating a life full of genuine love, authenticity, and joy.
