Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Megumi Reagan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Megumi, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from my early life experiences. In hindsight, my childhood could be described in job-speak as a “fast-paced and dynamic environment.” Having learned to pivot, problem-solve, and bounce back early on, these skills became second nature to me in my professional life.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a Fractional Marketing Officer and Co-founder of two companies–Human Focus Digital, a digital marketing company, and Trilliant, a growth-focused company. My academic background includes an MA in International Trade Policy Studies, building on my foundation in International Policy. In my role as a Fractional Marketing Officer, I develop and lead marketing strategies for several companies, many of which operate in highly regulated industries.
Currently, I oversee marketing for a group of companies in the fundraising sector under the Fox family of brands. This includes Fox Grants, specializing in prospect research, grant writing, and management; Fox Advancement, which focuses on feasibility studies and capital campaign management; and Fox Fractional, providing fractional staffing for nonprofits and higher education.
Human Focus Digital was co-founded alongside my incredible partner, Nicole Spracale, who is a friend, mentor, and fellow visionary. Together, our mission is to help businesses and individuals thrive in the digital world, supporting new ventures in building their online presence and guiding established companies in their digital transformation.
Additionally, I co-founded a new venture called Trilliant, alongside two exceptional executives, Jake Stahl and Julie Diekman. Together, we’re developing a solution designed to help companies achieve explosive growth by seamlessly acquiring new customers, nurturing strong relationships, and fostering long-term loyalty. That’s the power of Trilliant.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Resilience: Early on, I learned the value of bouncing back from challenges. My advice here is to embrace setbacks as learning opportunities. The faster you can shift your mindset to growth, the more resilient you become. Surround yourself with supportive mentors and peers who push you to grow and keep moving forward, even when things get tough. I’m fortunate and filled with gratitude for my supportive fiancé, business partners, mentors, and friends who know how to challenge me in ways that I’m receptive to.
2. Adaptability: In fast-paced environments, the ability to pivot and learn on the fly is invaluable. For those starting out, I recommend staying curious and open to new experiences. The tenacity to learn will get you places. Adaptability comes from a willingness to push beyond your comfort zone and experiment (and be ok failing). Whether you’re entering a new field or taking on a different role, being open to change will be one of your strongest assets.
3. Strategic Thinking: It’s crucial to see the big picture and plan for long-term success. Early in your career, focus on learning not just your immediate tasks, but how they fit into broader organizational goals. Develop the ability to think ahead and anticipate challenges. For me, co-founding companies like Human Focus Digital and Trilliant has been about not just solving today’s problems but crafting solutions that will drive growth for the future.
Ultimately, my advice is to invest in self-awareness and continuous learning. The more you understand your strengths and how to apply them, the more impactful you’ll be.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I’m sure the “fast-paced and dynamic” childhood comment resonated with some of you! Just like those jobs where you’re wearing 12 hats, putting out fires, and reacting instinctively to Slack alerts and calendar reminders—they teach you a lot, don’t they? But the most impactful lesson my parents taught me was empathy. They instilled this through the “golden rule,” acts of service, and active involvement in the community.
