Meet Meicheng Chi

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meicheng Chi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meicheng below.

Meicheng, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I kept exploring various media and tools, seeking spaces where I could experiment and express myself authentically. Drawing has become a personal retreat for me, where I navigate and connect with my emotions in the most genuine way. More importantly, I keep my creativity alive by remaining genuine as an artist and to trust in the strength that comes from staying true to myself throughout this journey. I believe that authenticity has a powerful resonance—not just in the work I create but in how it connects with others. I allow my emotions, feelings, vulnerability, memories and experiences to shape my work organically, create art that reflects my true self while inspiring others to connect with a tender part of their inner world.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Meicheng Chi, a multidisciplinary artist and fashion accessories designer currently based in New York. Born in China, I moved to the US, where I pursued Industrial Design and began broadening my creative horizon. Being an artist and designer keeps me sensitive to things around me and to my own feelings, which brings me closer to people I love, and, ultimately, to myself. I collaborate with artists, designers, and brands on diverse projects, including music album covers, visual presentations, and hand-drawn advertisement animations. Each project energizes my creativity and offers new, exciting opportunities for expression with creative sparkles.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities and skills that were most impactful in my journey were embracing vulnerability, staying genuine and trusting in the strength that comes from staying genuine. I would encourage artists and designers to listen to their own inner world, find their own language through which they can navigate their feelings and connect with others.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was encouraging me to draw freely, without boundaries or restrictions ever since I picked up drawing tools as a kid. I was drawing on everything I could find at home—paper, books, even walls. Growing up in a creative environment, with parents who are both designers and artists, i was introduced to artists and designers who kept inspiring me since I was 2 or 3 years old until now. My mother bought many painting books featuring great artists such as Egon Schiele, Henri Matisse, and Henry Darger, as well as many DVDs of seminal animated movies. I still remember watching Spirited Away when I was a kid, and I got so scared, but I think the exposure to these amazing works became an inspiration for me deep inside. My dad always shares great films and designs with me and shows so much love and passion for my work.
