Meet Meisha Gaines

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Meisha Gaines. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Meisha , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

I learned over time that I have to work hard and strive to be the best at whatever I am doing. Being a black woman in media and entertainment, I know that I have a stigma attached to me before I say a word. Due to the nature of the graphic design industry and photography world, I have often been the only black woman in the room. I make sure to show that I have authority and expertise that qualifies me to be present. I realized that first impressions are key and to make a lasting impact in any situation. Whenever I am the only black woman or person I make sure to stay true to my brand, be professional and show the value in whatever I am offering. I have learned that despite us being different, that we all share similar skills and expertise that bring us together as a community.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My brand Starz from Pluto Events is a service company that focuses on event planning, graphic design and photography. I’m an independent artist, by the name of MeMoney, so I had to learn skills to help me further my music career. I have always loved making music, art, being creative and capturing memories since I was a little girl. After obtaining my degree in Graphic Design, I decided to create a business that would utilize all of my creative passions. I began working with small businesses by helping them create brands that last. From websites, logos and marketing materials to product photoshoots and personal portraits. I created a one stop shop for anyone looking to brand theirself or their business. Over time I have been able to work with various companies like Maxwell’s Learning Academy, Truce Media, Nice and Clean Car Services.

On February 1st, Starz from Pluto events is throwing our very first Colorado Cosplay Party at Prismajic. Prismajic is an immersive art exhibit with a hidden speakeasy bar and a entertainment room. There will be live entertainment, amazing vendors, a catered buffet and a cosplay competition. My event planning company can help plan any event that comes to mind. We do free consultations to write a full plan for the type of event you have in mind. Starz from Pluto Events finds amazing venues, scouts and secures the perfect vendors, partners with sponsors and helps market the event. We will also be there the day of the event to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Throwing events has also helped me grow as an artist. In 2015 I started recording music under my artist name MeMoney and had my first show at The Roxy theater on Welton st. That was my first time seeing the way a event could bring together people and help the community at the same time. From that time on I have performed at various venues across Colorado and helped throw local shows for the community. My next performance will be at the Black Arts Festival 2025.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities and skills I’ve learned that were most impactful on my journey are always be opened to learning, be patient with yourself and most of all keep faith in the Most High God. I have been through many ups and downs in life and had to adapt to various situations. Life is full of surprises and unforeseen circumstances. By always being open to learning, you are able to stay knowledgeable and make clear decisions in hard times. Being patient in life has helped me achieve goals that take time and dedication. A tree doesn’t grow overnight, the seed takes time to mature and bloom to its full potential. I have always had a desire to seek out more knowledge and learn the truth in any situation. I have always had questions about what life is all about, what my purpose is and I always wanted to know the truth about God. I feel like when you seek out the truth and you find it, it will set you free. If you’re early on your journey of figuring things out just know that its all a process and it takes everyday. Success is not a place it’s a way of being. Learning, living patiently and seeking the truth in life is a way to stay on track on your own personal journey.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am looking for artists, models, producers, and engineers to connect with. I love developing my sound and my music so anyone who wants to collaborate can reach out to me via social media or email. My instagram is @memoney303 or @starzfromplutoevents and my email is [email protected]
