We recently connected with Meitong Ye and have shared our conversation below.
Meitong, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from a deep passion for storytelling and a strong support system. My family instilled in me the values of hard work and perseverance, always encouraging me to pursue my dreams and never give up, no matter how tough the journey might get.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am currently a producer focused on the rapidly evolving field of vertical screen dramas. Professionally, one of my most significant achievements has been the production of “Dark Web of Desire,” a vertical screen drama launched in June 2023 on the DramaBox app. This project not only attracted a wide audience but also laid the foundation for my subsequent vertical format projects. Over the past year, my team and I have produced over 10 vertical dramas, with “How to Snatch a Billionaire” becoming the most popular, amassing over 300,000 views on YouTube.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Effective communication has been one of the most impactful skills in my journey. Bridging the gap between investors and the production team requires clear and precise communication. This ensures that everyone’s vision is aligned and that projects run smoothly. Translating technical jargon into understandable terms for non-film professionals has been a key aspect of my role.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
In June 2023, as vertical dramas gained popularity, our team secured a $120,000 investment for a vertical screen drama, ‘Dark web of desire’, launched on the leading DramaBox app. This project not only attracted a wide audience but also established a foundation for my subsequent vertical format projects. Over the past year, I’ve developed a series of vertical episodes, enhancing my skills and positioning me as a forward-thinking producer in this evolving industry. In the past year, our team has produced over 10 vertical dramas. The most popular of these, ‘How to Snatch a billionaire’, has amassed over 300k views on YouTube.
As a producer, I led the creation of three thesis films—”Somnambulist,” “Newborn,” and “Under the Same Roof”—with budgets ranging from $12,000 to $30,000, all of which are now progressing through the award submission process. Her production experience extends to her role at Powerpulse Media, where was pivotal in producing the vertical short drama “Dark Web of Desire,” overseeing budgets over $100,000 and managing teams of up to 75 members. As a post-production supervisor, Meitong’s strategic scheduling and close collaboration with production teams have been crucial in ensuring the smooth execution and high standards of her projects.
