We were lucky to catch up with Melba Moncada recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melba , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Food was a calling in itself.
I always enjoy being in the kitchen but, when I open my business I discovered that there’s a great joy in delivering something that you are proud of.
Food is the best way to show your appreciation to somebody.
And, even tho I cook for a bigger crowd now that when I started.
The development of a menu and the delivery of my product is still full of love and with incredible attention to details.
When you do what you love you are not working any day in your life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Plato o Plomo Catering was born out of love for the city of San Antonio and their culture.
We started at small local bars presenting or own version of traditional Mexican Cuisine and people love it.
In our second year we got invited to San Antonio Taco festival were we shared our food with hundreds or restaurant owners and attendees.
The journey as not being easy but after almost five years in business we have being a part of beautiful quinceneras, weddings, baby showers, office gatherings, graduations and the smile of our customers every time is what keeps us going.
We are a family owned business and each one of us works on our caterings.
As a parents is very important to transmit to our children that working hard pays off and never giving up on yourself is the best satisfaction you can have.
As we enter 2025 we are working on our Web page and, you can also see our work in our social media pages. We upload our events around the city as well of Catering Menu constantly.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Love of what you do is important but, I think the most important part is consistency and discipline.
You have to adjust to change quickly. As many business owners that lived trough Covid19 It was hard to keep our dreams floating. We started with a food truck that had to be sold to keep us going. It was very hard to understand that our business plan and logistics had to change. But we made it work and it was the best decision. We upgrade our equipment, we came up with a new business model and not only we survived but we thrive in difficult times.
You have to understand the game a little bit and never be afraid of failure and change.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My husband and children.
I have never seen people so committed to a dream that did not belong to them in the first place.
I am blessed to have them by my side supporting me and working along them is a tremendous happiness.
They are my inspiration trough difficult times and my source of strength to become a better chef, a better business owner, a better role model for them and other people like me.
