Meet Melinda Colaizzi

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Melinda Colaizzi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Melinda, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started piano lessons when I was just 5 years old, and from there, my love for music only grew. I picked up the flute soon after, but it wasn’t until I got my first electric guitar as a teenager that I really found my voice—both literally and figuratively. I started singing, and music quickly became my outlet for self-expression.

Music has guided every major decision in my life, from the way I approach my career, to what college I attended, to my purpose with Women Who Rock. It’s fueled my passion not only for performing but also for using music as a force for good. I realized that through music, I could combine my love for the art with a mission to make an impact, especially when it comes to women’s health and empowerment, which is our core work at Women Who Rock.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Women Who Rock® is a trailblazing, female-founded brand dedicated to supporting women in music, empowerment, and advocating for women’s health. We partner with for-profit and non-profit organizations, and through our dynamic range of initiatives, including pop-up events, global campaigns, and flagship benefit concerts featuring some of the brightest stars in music with a 100% female-fronted line-up, we strive to amplify the voices of women.

We’re working to eliminate the women’s health gap by partnering with Magee-Womens Research Institute, the world’s largest research institute dedicated to women’s health.

Women’s health to this day is still underfunded and understudied. It wasn’t until 1993 that women were included in medical research. Women in music still face great underrepresentation, as on average female artists only make up about 20% of the average music festival lineup.

As the founder, I’ve had the honor of seeing this mission grow from a passion project into something truly impactful. We’ve hosted sold-out benefit concerts that bring together some of the biggest names in music like Melissa Etheridge, Ann Wilson of Heart, Jordin Sparks, Sheila E., and more to rock the stage while making a real difference for women’s health. These concerts benefit Magee-Womens Research Institute, the nation’s largest research institute dedicated solely to women’s health.

What’s most exciting for me right now is seeing Women Who Rock quickly expand globally. We’ve partnered with Hard Rock Cafe to build a campaign and bring our message to an international audience during International Women’s Month in March, which feels like a natural next step as we continue to grow our movement.

We’re also expanding our apparel line, with new items set to launch soon. Our clothing line, like our mission, is designed to empower women and support causes close to our hearts. I’m really proud of the new pieces we’re releasing, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have in store.

For me, Women Who Rock is about so much more than music. It’s about uniting strong women, raising our voices for important causes, and creating a lasting impact for women in music and women’s health. That’s the heart of everything we do.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on my journey, three qualities that have been most impactful are grit, passion, and adaptability.

Grit – The music industry, and any mission-driven work like Women Who Rock, requires persistence. There will always be challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt, but it’s grit that gets you through. My advice to those early in their journey is to never give up, even when things seem difficult. Keep pushing forward and remind yourself why you started. It’s that perseverance that leads to breakthroughs.

Passion – I’ve always been driven by a deep love for music and a strong desire to make a difference. Passion is what fuels late nights, hard work, and the drive to keep going. When you’re genuinely passionate, it shines through and can open doors. Figure out your passion in life and focus on it, keeping out distractions,

Adaptability – The ability to pivot and grow has been essential in both my music career and in building Women Who Rock. Nothing ever goes exactly as planned, so you have to be willing to evolve. My advice is to stay open to change and embrace the opportunities that come with it. Being adaptable not only keeps you resilient but also allows you to discover new paths you may not have expected.

For those starting their journey, I’d recommend working on developing these qualities through experience and learning from others. Surround yourself with mentors, the right people, big thinkers, stay committed, and never lose sight of why you started. These are the building blocks for long-term success

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely! At Women Who Rock, we are always looking for passionate individuals and organizations to join us in our mission. We’re especially excited to collaborate with female artists who want to take the stage at our events or be featured in our interview series. We love highlighting women in music and giving them a platform to share their stories, their music, and their message.

Additionally, we are always open to new sponsorship opportunities. Our sponsors play a crucial role in supporting our work through things like our events, and we’re eager to collaborate with brands that share our values of empowerment, equality, and making an impact for women.

If you’re an artist, sponsor, or someone who believes in what we’re doing, we’d love to hear from you. You can connect with us via our website at womenwhorock.info or through our social media platforms to explore how we can work together to rock the future of women’s health!
