We were lucky to catch up with Melinda Grace recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melinda, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My purpose found me at the perfect time in one the darkest seasons on my life. After pursuing my passion for acting, writing and producing left me broke and purposeless, I set out on a mission to get back on my feet and find my calling. As I went about trying job after job, I experienced an anxiety attack that led me to go HOME. While at my childhood home in Texas, I found peace, rest, and love. All of which helped me heal and be able to return to Los Angeles to try again. When I returned to LA, I worked a few more marketing jobs, sought help from a life and career coach and got married to the man of my dreams. …Then the pandemic hit. While working from home everyone binge watched Marie Kondo and The Home Edit on Netflix, and I did too! Working with the life and career coach led me learn a lot about myself and pushed me to really dive deep into who I was, am and want to be. Through lots of prayer, journaling and talking it out with my husband, my purpose came to light: help busy women get their homes organized so they too can find their calling, reconnect with their family and loved ones, and have a sanctuary to take care of their souls. With everyone stuck at home, all of LA was literally decluttering and organizing their homes. This by-product of the pandemic made it extremely easy for me to start my professional organizing business. I had my first home organizing client in August of 2020 and I haven’t stopped organizing since!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a professional home organizer and CEO of my small business, Melinda Grace Organizing. I provide bespoke, luxury home organizing and styling services to busy moms and grandmoms in-person in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties and virtually anywhere in the world. Clients come to me overwhelmed, frustrated and often confused about where to even start. I work through my organizing method, G.R.A.C.E., and help clients restore their inspiration, renew their mindsets, and reclaim their space with grace.
Melinda Grace Organizing offers customized and flexible organizing solutions. I take time to understand you, your organizing goals and your space. I work hard to declutter and create organizing systems that fit your lifestyle and look beautiful.
“When I started my organizing business in 2020, I knew grace, home and faith had to be incorporated into everything I do.” (Reclaim Your Space with G.R.A.C.E.) …And so, I wrote a book that is about the intersection of faith and organizing, emotions and healing. My new book offers a 3D look at organizing to those who are seeking a deeper, more meaningful experience with decluttering and organizing their homes. It’s a gentle and inspirational book that guides the reader through my G.R.A.CE. organizing method. It’s available NOW on Amazon.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Persistance. Acceptance. Community.
I was relentless in trying jobs that I thought would be a good fit for me and my skills. I was persistent in getting back on my feet financially so I could afford the help I needed to find my calling. Once I got the help, I was persistent in doing the hard introspective work as well as the research needed to find results. I was persistent in seeking and find the answers I needed to move forward and find my purpose. From there I was persistent in doing what I needed to do to start my business!
Throughout the process, I learned to accept who I am. I accepted how I was created, my personality, my life experiences, the joys, the successes, the challenges and the mistakes and give myself grace. In my experience, I couldn’t move forward until I fully accepted who I was and I who I wanted to become.
My friends and family played a major role in helping me get back on my feet. This community helped me meet the people I needed to meet to keep moving forward. Once I started Melinda Grace Organizing, they became my first clients and are now my greatest referral partners!

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The best entrepreneur book that changed my thinking and started me down a path to find my purpose, is Essentialism by Greg McKeown. I read the book while working a temp. job and pursing acting, writing and producing and as I read it I felt a huge breath of fresh air. You mean I don’t have to be doing a million things all at once? With every job I took I remembered this book and asked myself is this my thing?
“The way of Essentialism means living by design, not by default.” I really set out on a journey not only to find my purpose but to design my life in a way where I could get the most meaning out of it.
“Essentialism is not about how to get more things done; it’s about how to get the right things done. It doesn’t mean just doing less for the sake of less either. It is about making the wisest possible investment of your time and energy in order to operate at our highest point of contribution by doing only what is essential.” If this was my new way of living, what career could I do that I would I absolutely love going all in on and implement the “essentialism” lifestyle?
It’s also played a huge role in how I run my business and it has helped guide in what to say “yes” and “no” to as opportunities present themselves.
The other book (BONUS!) I am currently reading and LOVING is The Pumpkin Plan by Mike Michalowicz. It’s along the same lines as “Essentialism” but from a marketing perspective. If you’re business is up and running and you’re not totally satisfied with your clients and on the edge of burnout, this book is for you!!!
