We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Melinda Matticoli. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Melinda below.
Hi Melinda, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I believe my work ethic comes naturally, and I carry it with me into every space I walk into in my life. As a projector in Human Design, I naturally feel the urge to get things done faster than the average person, even if that means my day is shorter.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a choreographer, director, and educator. I have the privilege of traveling around the world working with brands and music artists on music videos and advertising, as well as teaching the next generation of professional dancers.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
PASSION: If you aren’t passionate about something, don’t waste your energy or let it consume any more of your precious time. Finding what you are passionate about may take some trial and error, and it may change over time. That’s okay. Let life flow naturally.
NAMING YOUR GOALS: Having goals is a great idea. Putting them in motion is even better. If you think of a goal, such as “I want to travel to France,” thinking it and creating steps to do it are two different things. I challenge you, if you have a goal, tell it to your friends and start putting pen to paper, and see how it will turn into motion. An idea needs to catch momentum to be achieved. Start putting together a budget of how much the trip will cost. Check how many vacation dates you have for work. Start researching flights and hotels. Most importantly, get it out of your head and onto paper (pen to paper is best, but a computer works too). This applies to both personal and career goals.
LET IT EVOLVE: Life will never stay completely constant. Look outside, nature is always changing, and we are too. This idea that we have “reached the top” or are “finished” is a false reality. Life will constantly be evolving and growing, just like the trees and birds you see out your window. As things evolve, take your goals and passions and let those naturally flow with what feels good to you.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking to connect and create with more people.
BRANDS: Organizations that prioritize community engagement and foster meaningful connections through the arts.
DANCE STUDIOS: Studios serving dancers ages 12 and up, pre-professional and professional levels, who are passionate about their craft, committed to refining their skills, and dedicated to cultivating inclusive, uplifting spaces.
MUSIC ARTISTS: Artists who value creativity, collaboration, and the power of shared artistic expression.
