We recently connected with Melissa Moss and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I have struggled with depression ever since I can remember but probably started when I lost all my self worth when my second-grade teacher sexually assaulted me. From there with no confidence or positive self talk, I grew up bullied and never fitting in. Because of low self esteem I fell into multiple abusive relationships as I grew older. I tried my best to be whoever someone would love. I had my son, who literally saved my life, during my second marriage.
Through numerous therapists, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, hospitalizations, and medications I learned a lot about myself and what I needed to take care of myself.
I am now happily married to a man who lives me as I am, and I am now a happy, productive, growing person.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I help female survivors of childhood depression who are still feeling broken & stuck to navigate thriving in their present and create a joyful future.
I am a dedicated and passionate mindset coach who understands the challenges of feeling lost and stuck in the modern world. As a woman who has successfully navigated these challenges in my own life, I am committed to helping others do the same.
I have honed my skills and developed strategies that are effective and practical for women of all ages and walks of life. My compassionate and non-judgmental approach makes me someone who clients can trust and rely on to help them overcome their limiting beliefs and find the courage and strength to step into their power.
Whether they’re feeling stuck in their personal growth journey, I am here to guide them to the breakthroughs and transformations they deserve. With a focus on mindset shifts, self-care practices, and goal-setting, I empower women to overcome their fears and create the fulfilling lives they desire.
I’m ready to to help women step into their true potential and unleash their inner power.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three practices that were most impactful in my journey were: learning to replace negative self-talk with a positive spin; learning to be with myself alone in meditation; and repeating to myself over and over “I’m enough.”
My best advice is not to strive for perfection in the things you do. Remember it’s the progress you make each moment. Moment to moment.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My first mindset coach I worked with. I had never before thought of or even discussed my limiting beliefs and fears so openly, knowing we were working on a plans of actions. She helped learn to structure my time and know that just as I am, I am enough. She showed me there is always room for growth and learning. So many “ah ha” moments with her just learning where old thinking came from in my past and why it wasn’t true. She showed me I had purpose and with her I discovered mine. I learned I could use all the negative moments in my life to help women who have struggled the same.
