We recently connected with Melissa Warren-dick and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
In a way, I feel like I was born into resiliency. I grew up with a mom who had schizophrenia, and even though she loved me dearly, there was a lot of tough mental challenges to overcome. Becoming a teenager, I found that I’m doing drugs would help me deal with the things that were happening in my life that I didn’t know how to deal with, so I became an addict for many years. Although that was one of the toughest times of my life, overcoming addiction and living in recovery now has added to my own resiliency. Even now, as I continue on my healing journey, I encounter the so called darkness within myself, and choose to continue doing the inner work to move through it all. I know not everyone enjoys being called resilient, but I have become somewhat proud of it because it shows all I have overcome. I think all of these things contribute to my resilience, and keep me focused on staying resilient as well.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi friends! My name is Melissa, and I’m also known as the Empress of the Night’s Light. I’m 40 years old, and I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I’m married to my best friend and soulmate, and we have an orange cat named Grogu that keeps us on our toes. I’m a horror movie fan and enjoy spending time in nature hiking and exploring.
I found my spiritual path after watching The Craft as a kid. It was like I finally figured out who I was with that movie, and I’ve been learning and growing off and on ever since. I blend tarot, astrology, meditation, breathwork, moon phase work, Goddess alignment alongside ritual work, and anything else I feel would be helpful to guide my path and my direction. My practice is always evolving, and for that, I’m grateful, because I don’t ever want to stop growing. 🔥
Because of this practice, I am able to better hone and utilize my intuitive gifts, which is an ongoing process, of course. I enjoy sharing these gifts with others and helping them find their way back to themselves. I feel like we all get a little lost sometimes, and a lighthouse such as myself can help guide you back to You. In addition to this, I also have an educational and professional background in mental health that I draw upon as needed in client sessions and offerings.
My favorite part of doing what I do is helping other people find their way back home to themselves. When I pull tarot cards for someone to help them with their next steps, it feels good being able to help. When I look at someone’s natal chart and can help them deeper understand who they are this lifetime, I feel enriched. When I am doing breathwork with a client, and they overcome something that has kept them blocked, there’s nothing better than that feeling. I am so grateful I get to do this work.
I do have an online astrology retreat coming up in April that I am super excited about. This will blend all of the things that I do together and link it back to the clients natal chart. Definitely check out my website for more information on this because it’s going to be super fun and replay access is available as well. empressofthenightslight.com
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
An open mind, the ability to dig deeply into oneself to find the truth without judging myself, and a sprinkle of optimism.
Give yourself grace and time to grow and heal, and allow yourself to make mistakes. Being open minded takes work, as does being able to see ourselves honestly, and not judging ourselves for what we didn’t know before. The best thing anyone can do it choose not to give up on yourself. I know things can get rough, but please, don’t give up. You matter.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Ohhh, this is actually something I’m currently navigating. When I get overwhelmed, my first instinct is to push through it, but I actually suggest doing the opposite… take a break. Press pause, even if just for a moment. That will help gain new perspective. Also, I suggest doing what I call a brain dump. Write down allll the things that are adding to the feelings of overwhelm so they are out of your head and on paper. Then assess what needs done first, second, so on and so forth. Most importantly, stop to breathe. Take some deep breaths and recenter. Meditate. Ground. Focus on some kind and loving self care. Get creative. Go play and have fun. And give yourself some grace. You’re a human being navigating some tough stuff.
