Hi Melody, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose and continue to find my purpose in my relationship with God. Everything else in my life ebs and flows, but God stays the same and in him I find strength and resilience to keep pursuing the path I believe he has called me to. Sometimes I get discouraged by the music industry and the darkness in it, but when I remember that my purpose does not lie in the industry’s definition of “success”, I am filled with peace. From a young age I have felt God calling me to a life dedicated to creativity and ministering to others. My greatest passion is writing songs that honor God and help people. Life is so beautiful and yet so hard and I want to write and release songs that will make people feel seen and inspire them to turn to God.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’ve always considered myself a country girl at heart. From the time I was two, I’ve been in love with farm animals and everything cowgirl. Growing up, my life revolved around Country and Christian music. Coming from a very musical family, I often say I learned to sing from my mom and to write songs from my dad. Singing in church was a big part of my childhood, and my passion for music has always been deeply connected to my faith.

When it came time to record my first single, I struggled to choose between Country and Christian music. After much reflection and prayer, I realized I didn’t have to pick just one. The music I write is a blend of both genres, reflecting who I am. So here I am, a Country Christian singer-songwriter!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think it is so important for creatives to hone in their craft before trying to “make it big”. Patience is big and it is important to pursue your dreams for the right reasons. If your goal is to bring more beauty to the world then let that motivate you to practice and prepare before you begin to share your art with the world.

For the music industry especially, it is so important to be personable. So much of having a career in music is about the connections you make, so it is so helpful to be a likable person that others want to work with!

Lastly, I believe perseverance is so important if you want to build a career in music. You have to work hard and keep working hard. I have by no means “made it”. I am still early in this journey, but I have learned a lot so far and I am trying to make sure that I have patience, personability and perseverance.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

The Bible! It keeps me grounded and always puts things in perspective. When life is hard and when the road ahead feels too long and difficult, I open up the Word and I am always encouraged and pointed back to what matters most!
