Meet Melody Morrison

We were lucky to catch up with Melody Morrison recently and have shared our conversation below.

Melody , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Confidence and Self-Esteem, for me, has come over time. When we are born, we are innately confident, but over time, that confidence erodes as our eyes are opened to the world, to good and evil, and to other people.

Self-esteem, inherently, comes from the way you view yourself. Many people make promises to others and will do everything in their power to keep that promise, so as not to let the other person down. But rarely do we think about the promises we make to ourselves. Confidence and self-esteem are built through the reinforcement of keeping promises to ourselves and becoming someone so totally aligned with who we are and who we want to be.

As a perpetual people pleasure, I have to constantly monitor and keep myself in check because its all to easy to let the lure of trying to please other people undermine my own promises to myself. But through the setting of boundaries and clear expectations, I can confidently say that I have overcome this confidence-killing trait and continue to grow my self-esteem with every promise that I keep.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Last September (2024) I started my 5th entrepreneurial venture, Allegro Events, an event planning and staffing company on a mission to create unforgettable moments and foster meaningful connections through exceptional service. Based in Orlando, our company helps to execute some of the most exquisite events in Central and South Florida.

Our team consists of a group of carefully curated professionals who are creative, full of energy, and committed to excellence. Specializing in hospitality staffing, we can help bridge the gap so you can enjoy your favorite bites hand-passed by our polished and professional wait staff or to create a high level experience with signature cocktails specially crafted by our team of mixologists.

Every event we help orchestrate is a beautiful collaboration between some of Florida’s best vendor teams, bringing your idea into fruition so that you can enjoy the best part of entertaining–savoring the moment and making the best connections.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Where do I even begin! Owning your own business is not for the faint of heart.

I think one of the most important skills is to be self-aware. You need to be able to recognize your blind spots and what you are not good at and either 1. spend your time to get better or 2. Find someone who has what you need and hire them!

Second would be sales (and marketing). Understanding sales has been monumental for being able to learn and grow the business. Everything in life is sales. You interview for a job–sales. You go on a date–sales. You pick what restaurant to eat–sales. Its literally a fundamental part of life and once you understand that, it becomes a lot easier to do.

Last but certainly not least is to be resilient. Grit gets you through the humps. Some days you feel like you are on top of the world, and some days you wonder if you’re going to make it through tomorrow. Taking action, one day at a time, and never giving up is the whole game. Rinse and repeat.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

All in, hands down! There are a million different self-help books and 1000 skills you could try to learn but we all have limited time on this earth and why spend it trying to be the Jack of all trades– but master of none.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am all for improving skills, especially when it is something that makes you better, but in the context of business and in life, I am a huge advocate for collaborating with those who balance you. We are stronger together. No one on this Earth can do it all–nor should we WANT to. Its unsustainable.
