We were lucky to catch up with Melody Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melody , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
The household I come from was strict, fun and wild lol….so I had morals, discipline, self respect and a mother who didn’t play about her kids and me being her only daughter, she had to learn more about me being her last child but first daughter out of 3 sons. So she FOREVER hyped me up, she always wanted me to do a lot in life, she had high expectations of me but due to life, a few I couldn’t fulfill and even then, she praised me and kept me on my toes. And I’m a plus size girl so my mom would buy me this and that and keep me up….I would always hear how good I looked or where did I get this item from, etc. So I was groomed with confidence to know that no matter what goes on, still stand tall over adversity with your head held high.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a published, plus size model out of Atlanta,Ga for the past 7 years,I have been branding brands, ambassador for Shein, receiving callbacks from talent agencies and continuing to build my professional portfolio.
I use my face and body for motivational purposes, I hope to one day grace the world on a larger scale with my confidence as I feel the world needs it.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My confidence is a reason I like to showcase to the world, I am delighted to share my self esteem with others and I’m not afraid.
My skills are one of the reasons I knew how to navigate the fashion world and find my place in it
I am Employed at Macy’s, that made it easier to function on the style side, clothing wise, what to wear, how to look, what’s in season, what’s not, new drops, new merchandise.
My advice would be to find your niche, come outside and network in your journey, you never know who you will run into. Make sure you are studying your craft, some people just watch other people and think they can do it and not do it themselves.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents always taught us hard work determination and go for what you want ..My mom passed August 14, 2023 and it’s been rough not having my biggest cheerleader here with me anymore, I almost gave up on my life…
I still have my dad here with me so I keep on pushing but I always hear my mom still and now I’m back and better than ever!!! Even in her ill days, my mom worked and wanted to keep living, neither her nor my father complained, they kept going. FOREVER LIVING LIKE MY MOTHER.
