We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Melvin Moya. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Melvin below.
Hi Melvin, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
By thinking: “There is a door open, I just need to keep checking which doorknob is unlock ” and if there is no door open at least I can live the rest of my life with the peace in my heart that I try my best and not live with the doubt thinking, if I could it make it” That doubt can eat you alive until you die and live a life of regrets…. I want to live a life with the satisfaction that if even I don’t make it but I never surrender , I kept my dreams alive and that’s its the best reward. You would never achieve anything if you don’t take risks. You take risk not only in business but in life. When you chose to love someone you take the risk of getting your heart broken. You take risk getting in to a mortgage or car payment because you don’t know if the next day you will lose your job. You take risk driving because you can be the best driver but you don’t know the others drivers. You get in to a plane for vacations to travel without a parachute , taking the risk that the plane is in good mechanical conditions. LIFE IS ALWAYS A RISK…the only think you never take risk and that you know you will always have victory is trusting and giving your life to Christ. He will never fail, he would never leave you, he will never lie to you and he will never brake your heart. You will lose more by taking no risk than by taking risks .
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
There are two passions in my life: Music & Cooking. With them, I can not only express my art but can give love through them, bless others, and help many. I started singing professionally at 7 years old with my father’s music group. I spent my childhood and teenage life on tour all year long. Since I was little I used to make breakfast for my mom and watch her cooking. I start cooking in a restaurant at 14 years old. At 18 I was a Chef in a restaurant and with that, I paid myself thru college where I graduated as a pharmacist. Then went back to college and earned an associate degree as a teacher. Worked one year as a pharmacist and never as a school teacher… I have been always in the music and restaurant business. I know what it feels like to have everything that you want and I know it feels like losing absolutely everything. Then started building up and losing it back until I was homeless in New York and Connecticut for 3 years eating even from the trash. I know how it feels to lose a marriage even when you try your best. I know how it feels to lose a baby. I know how it feels when people and friends do not support you. But God has been more than good to me and I learned that everything happened for a purpose. He has great things to give us but before he gives us these blessings we need to learn to be good administrators and be grateful even for the most insignificant things in life. You will never appreciate air until you are not able to breathe. You will never appreciate the sunrise until you lose your site. You will never appreciate a loved one until they pass away. I give thanks to God that he gave me the strength to work, to keep my dreams alive, and to take care of my special need daughter, my special needs brother in law and my wife with her epilepsy .
With my music I just not only want to God touch people’s hearts but to be transformed inside out. My dream is not only to be able to bring music to people but to be able to make enough profit to help families in different parts of the world. I want to be able to provide families in need not only with basic needs but many with a home or a business of their own. Help special needs kids in poverty to get what they need to make a little more easy their life. I always imagine myself making a big concert and encouraging people to bring at least one product of food or medicine or whatever and have trucks outside to collect this donation to bless families, homeless people, and more. Can you imagine in a 10,000 people concert bringing at least one bag of rice and one bag or cane beans how many people can be fed? That’s one of my many dreams. I don’t want to live for riches but to use riches to make a difference in this world. in this dream, there are schools and medical clinics and help one random person once a year to record their song and start their dreams. Going to different countries and not only singing but cook for people in villages and street. I’m recording my 3rd solo album and I hope that bless people’s life. People”s support is vital so I can keep going to reach the goals that God put in my heart and for me to be able to visit countries and venues where cannot afford a plane ticket for me to get there. For 20 Years 99% of the place that I travel to I have paid for it myself. And the money made in CD sales or items we have you it for gas, motels, flight tickets, food, and bless others.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Persistence, never thinking that you know it all, and good administrator .
In my personal life….. You cannot achieve dreams and goals with an unhealthy personal life and that starts with putting God first in your life.
Before starting your journey train yourself. Discipline your mind and impulses. Never think with too high an expectancy but never doubt yourself. Don’t be proud and ask for help in the areas that you don’t know or have doubts.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
It’s very easy to collaborate. Just share one of my songs…share my story. Download at least one song. Organize a concert, coordinate events, or recommend us to a record label, promoter, or manager. Recommend us to radio stations, tv shows, etc…
