We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meme Green. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meme below.
Hi Meme, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome…the killer of all dreams.
Imposter syndrome is trying to speak to me now as I write. It’s the voice that tells you that maybe I’m not good enough, maybe I’m not qualified for this job or maybe I don’t belong here.
All lies rooted in fear and insecurity. If you are here, it’s your divine right to show up. Show up exactly as you are because this is what led you here.
Everything you need will be provided for you and it will always work itself out.
Don’t let the whispers be louder than your dreams.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve come to accept my new role as a writer.
My title was always “Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist”. I’ve learned that I have the ability to bridge the gab between two loves.
As a therapist, I’m able to tap into that side of emotions and story telling.
As a writer, I’m able to release the emotions on paper.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe we are all born with gifts and talents.
It’s only when we are stretched out of our comfort zone that we start to see those talents. I didn’t realize I was an amazing story teller until I was forced to write. I didn’t realize I had a vision for cinema until I was asked to participate in a documentary. I didn’t realize I was a leader until I was asked to supervise.
This is why denouncing the whispers of “Imposter Syndrome” is so important.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My mother’s vision spoke to me not her words.
I watched my mother chase her dreams for years. I watched my mother leap for things bigger than her eyes could see.
It was through her visions that I developed my own dreams. I just had the means to carry them out.
