Meet Mercedes Rouse

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mercedes Rouse. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mercedes below.

Mercedes , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.

I have an amazing support system despite the haters. Growing up I was told I wouldn’t amount to anything. I told myself that I had to prove them wrong and in turn found myself in a family that supports me even if I don’t have the confidence myself they have it for me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I recently moved from Arizona to Colorado and went into business with my mother in law/ best friend. She already had Sinful Beauty up and running and recently expanded to offer hair services to bring me in.
I have been doing hair for about 5 years, I am currently expanding my training to learn more about highlights rather than just cuts and simple colors. I have also started training to get certified in extension’s. To me the most exciting thing about what I do is being there for other people I am more than just a stylist, my clients come to my chair to relax or vent. I get to hear all about their lives. I get to watch kids grow up. The most amazing part is the smile on their faces when they leave. I love when I can make my clients leave feeling as beautiful as they are when they walk in. I offer a wide range of services from cuts, colors, styles and even fun add ins to the hair like tinsel or feathers. My next focus of training is going to be braiding.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Being able to communicate, listen and have the ability to soak everything in has helped a lot, once you can communicate how you need help you will be able to get the exact help you need. Listen fully to what you are being taught and lastly just try, don’t limit yourself, I am working on that myself not letting me get in the way of doing amazing things. Lean on your mentors and support systems that’s what they are there for.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Teresa Rouse had been the most helpful in overcoming challenges, she has done so much at helping me make sure I succeed. She is pushing me to open up and take a leap in my career to become successful at what I do. She taught me to show up even if my books are empty. To put myself out there everyday post across social media. Im slowly getting clientele just by showing up everyday!
