Meet Meredith Crawford

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Meredith Crawford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Meredith, thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
This is a tricky one because EVERY BODY wants to overcome Creativity Blocks. The trick is respecting the block and allowing it to block you. With song-writing, which is the channel that most of my creativity flows from, it can be really annoying because creating things is like a high. Whatever product comes out of a creative session, whether it be a song or a painting or a really great picture, you get attached to it because it helps you understand yourself. Maybe a little bit of your identity gets intertwined in that creation as well. If you’re experiencing a creative block, it’s probably because you need to stop what you’re doing and pay attention to what’s going on around you. Quit thinking about yourself and look to help others that might really need your help or your love, support, etc.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I love music and always have since I was old enough to bang on the keys of a piano as a kid. Probably around 7 years old was when I started singing in choir. I was your typical hymn singing goody-good when I was young. I started singing country music when I was 13 and began playing in local East Texas “opries” or “opry shows”. High school hit and I started writing my own songs, playing guitar, and helping in youth worship groups. I got pregnant in high school and couldn’t really continue playing music until my babies were a little more grown, but boy did I have some songs! I started hitting the ground heavy with solo shows in 2015 once my kids were a little older. I’ve played in several bands, and have played all over East Texas, Dallas-Fort Worth, and West, Central and South Texas. I have recorded an album, EP and several singles and still writing. My newest project is an album that focuses on country songs, but with a Vintage vibe that pulls inspiration from the Artists I was most heavily influenced by like Tanya Tucker, Bobbie Gentry and all of the classic queens of Country Music.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Don’t lie to yourself – People who know you KNOW you. Most of that starts with family, and even more of it starts with you. Don’t shut out your inner voice that talks to you plain as the nose on your face. 2. Don’t make decisions when you’re pissed off – Emotions are temporary. Happy or sad, they’re sure to fade. Let yourself have time to think things through before you rush into something.
3. Don’t say yes all of the time – Some things aren’t worth saying yes to. Know your worth and your value, but be humble.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, assess what’s causing that feeling. Re-allocate your priorities based on what is most important for you and go forward.
