Meet Meredith Heim-ziegler

We were lucky to catch up with Meredith Heim-ziegler recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Meredith, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I got my resilience from a variety of experiences throughout my life, but it really started from my time as an echocardiographer (cardiac ultrasonographer) in the city, where I quickly learned how to thrive in high-paced, high-stress environments. After six years of schooling, I spent just four years in the field before a shoulder injury—caused by overuse during the strain of COVID—forced me to retire early. That experience taught me how intense environments raise your threshold for stress, and how to approach every challenge with a mindset of growth. I’ve learned to see each ‘no’ or failure as a valuable lesson or a pivot to something better, and I carry that perspective with me as I move forward.

From this I started one company based in my visual spatial strengths, and creative nature. My first legal company was WOODIE (@thewoodieco) a wooden wick vegan candle company. All of the products are snarky and fun, making great gifts and salability with a ‘omg look at this!’ factor. Another one of my collections was based on domestic and international Airport Codes. These were very popular with real estate agents, customers with long distance friends and family members, and travel agents.

My business sense from this endeavor landed me a job as a Wedding Venue and Social Media Manager. I was immersed (literally, I lived on the property) in the wedding world gaining a deep understanding of the industry, its short comings, vendor and client needs. I began doing content and behind the scenes coverage for the Venue, and would deliver any of the footage I took to the brides the day after to enjoy. On top of this, I created a monthly women’s entrepreneurial group to meet up and find support within the somewhat isolating and very high pressure industry. I have always operated under from the perspective that people can achieve more as a unit than alone. This paved the way to The Fancy Farm Fling (wedding planning, coordination and rentals @fancyfarmfling ), Heim Ziegler Pictures (wedding day content and branding media @heimzieglerpictures ), and The Honeymoon BFF (modern couples travel advisors @thehoneymoonbff ).

After launching my content business, I received a lot of backlash and less than a warm welcome from a vendor on the team of an upcoming wedding. She really discouraged me and devalued my services, and I was bothered because I knew that is what she wanted to do. It was frustrating because the bride hired me, and the bride wanted my services. It really was shocking since wedding days are about the client, not the vendors. I actually backed away from marketing these services for a few months because of this day. I got to talking to other vendors of her category and realized that interaction was a ‘her’ problem not a ‘me’ problem. I began marketing my services again and things really took off for me. Looking back, I am so happy I kept that resiliency and believed in myself to keep moving forwards.

As a serial entrepreneur, I’ve started over a dozen endeavors and businesses in the last decade. Some stuck, some did not. Some were fun, but not sustainable. I see my ideas as darts thrown at a dart board, one or two of them are going to stick long term and be my ikagai; The perfect intersection of my talents, my passions, what my clients need and the greater good.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

The most exciting and fulfilling part of my career has always been helping people. I truly believe my purpose is to advocate for those who feel overwhelmed or out of their depth, offering a friendly presence when they need it most. Whether it was comforting cardiac patients in the hospital or easing the anxiety of a bride’s mom, I’ve seen how often people hesitate to ask questions for fear of sounding foolish. Creating a welcoming, trustworthy, and professional environment is invaluable. With my natural creative abilities and this approach, I feel completely fulfilled and grateful for where I am in my professional journey, all thanks to the amazing clients who’ve trusted and believed in me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Identifying a Need; Pay attention to people around you, and identify ways in which they may need help.
2. Vision and Branding; Color theory, branding boards, and Pinterest are your best friend. Always start with a branding board to create a cohesive brand; Logos, color palette, fonts, and tone. Save your business names handle on IG, page on Facebook and Domain Name asap even if you do not plan to go live for months.
3. Seamless Communication; Quick, personalized and automatic replies to your inquiries and requests are crucial. If a client thinks they are going to get lost in the shuffle, you are too busy for them, or do not feel you are organized, they will not just walk they will run.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

Beating imposter syndrome has been a key part of my journey. I’ve learned that the real strength lies in recognizing that no one achieves success alone. Building a team with the right people is far more powerful than trying to do everything on your own. Learning to delegate and trust in the expertise of others has been crucial for my business’s growth. It’s not just about what you can do, but how well you can surround yourself with the right talent and empower them to help you reach new heights.
