Meet Mersedeh Motahari

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mersedeh Motahari. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mersedeh below.

Mersedeh , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I usually try to keep my creativity alive through having a growth mindset. I am open and willing to keep learning new things, there are many other courses, books, and experiences that can help you keep learning , the most and the best effective way to learn is social media for me .For instance, it’s not too late to learn a new language or how to play a musical instrument or how to bring emotions through pictures by capturing special moments for different occasions. Lifelong learning keeps your mind active and adds to your confidence. Another way is working on a variety of types of projects, if you normally capture portraits or birthday events try to escalate to big weddings, It’s important that the experience is different enough, because requiring different skills will challenge you.
Avoid ruts. If you get stuck doing the same things every day in the same way, your brain doesn’t get much new to work with. It’s great to travel to distant lands, but it’s also possible to stimulate your brain closer to home. A few things you can vary:

• how you travel to work

• what you eat

• whom you hang out with

• which TV shows you watch

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I was born and raised in Iran. Proudly a Persian girl ! I experienced bitter and sweet in my life story like other people but ups and downs always made me much stronger and more powerful , anytime I broke down I tried to put together all the broken pieces and stood up my head higher, I never gave up !
I was working as a fashion designer in my homeland over 10 years and stablished a brand called M E R S E D E H COLLECTION which in a short time I became very popular and successful , I also had a chance to export some of my designs to other countries and oversees .I could build up my own business and clients with all my hard work but unfortunately due to some difficulties and limits in my country I had to stop working despite of all my passion for fashion and moved to America completely. I was very depressed at that time because I lost my opportunity to continue working in my country, my language , my family and friends ,my loyal clients …
I started photography since 2015 when I moved to California but to be honest I didn’t take it seriously and after somehow, in 2018 when I moved to Georgia, Atlanta I decided to work professionally and making money meanwhile I was thinking that I have to build up a business which I can travel anywhere because life though me a lot that I shouldn’t stuck in 1 location and don’t rely on people. I only had my own back to be successful and this is the secret !!!
Long story short ,I had a very educated photographer in Iran who I always hired him for my designs and fashion shows who helped me a lot to buy the best and high end camera ,lens ,flash and …,I appreciate him for all his kindness !! I didn’t even know how to use them but I tried to learn everything from you tube and social media by practicing every day and all my hard work I started to marketing and could reach to get more clients every week . At the beginning I didn’t charge people just to build up my resume ,google business and my Instagram page ,After 1 or 2 months surprisingly I was hired more and more !
Now it’s been almost 3 years that I am working and proudly just won the Atlanta’s best award of 2023 for the best wedding & event photographer . I am so excited to work harder to achieve my goals and dreams .
At the end I just want you to know that positive minds always create and bring out the best things out of a horrible situation which you are experiencing and one day all your hard work will be paid of and you feel true happiness, success and joy and you will be proud of yourself !

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I never gave up , work hard and positive mind and also being kind with people helped me a lot ,of course this is my personality 🙂

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I always had my own back to reach my goals , I am very thankful to anyone who was with me or against me 🙂 They all made me much stronger to achieve my dreams .
