We were lucky to catch up with Micah Gregory recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Micah, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I strive to maintain a sense of separation from the world around me—not by dissociating, but by recognizing that I am the coffee bean in every situation. When coffee beans are subjected to high pressure, they don’t break down—they transform their environment, creating something entirely new.
When people ask, “How have you been?” I often respond, “The world may be falling apart, but I am perfectly fine.” This usually makes them pause, reflecting on the idea that while chaos may surround us, it doesn’t have to define us. We can’t control everything happening around us, but we can control how we respond.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
This year, I’m stepping into a new creative realm. Last year, you knew me as an influencer, podcast creator, and more. But this year, I’d like to introduce myself as a writer.
I wouldn’t call writing my passion—I’ll be honest, I’m not particularly fond of it. But what I am passionate about is creation. I love bringing ideas to life, whether it’s teaching choreography to my students, filming a new podcast episode, producing a series, or yes—even writing stories. And that’s the journey I’m on this year.
Previously, I introduced Blackbook Stories, a radio drama series that reimagines and authentically retells fairytales, performed by local voice actors. I’ve written several scripts that have been produced into radio dramas, but now, we’re expanding into the world of books—novels, chapter books, and comics.
It’s a new challenge, but one I’m excited to take on.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities or skills that have been most impactful in my journey are adaptability, creative execution, and storytelling.
Adaptability – The ability to pivot and embrace new roles has been crucial. Whether shifting from an influencer to a writer or exploring different mediums, staying open to change has allowed me to grow.
Advice: Be willing to step outside your comfort zone. Try new things, even if they feel unfamiliar. The more you experiment, the more you learn what resonates with you.
Creative Execution – Ideas are great, but execution is everything. I’ve always been passionate about creating, whether through choreography, podcasting, or now, writing. Learning how to turn an idea into something tangible has been a game-changer.
Advice: Start before you feel ready. Perfectionism can hold you back, but action leads to growth. Set deadlines, create consistently, and refine as you go.
Storytelling – Whether through podcasts, radio dramas, or books, storytelling is at the core of everything I do. Understanding how to connect with an audience and evoke emotions has made my work more impactful.
Advice: Study great storytellers in your field, analyze what makes their work compelling, and practice telling stories in your own unique way. Feedback is invaluable—share your work and refine based on what resonates.
For those early in their journey: stay curious, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to evolve. Every step, even the uncomfortable ones, contributes to your growth.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth in the past 12 months has been embracing the discipline of writing and storytelling in a new way. While I’ve always been a creator, writing wasn’t something I naturally gravitated toward—yet, I found myself diving into it more than ever.
The shift from spoken storytelling (through podcasts and radio dramas) to the written word (books, scripts, and comics) required a new level of patience, structure, and intentionality. I had to learn how to refine my ideas on the page, make them engaging without the aid of voice actors or visuals, and trust the process even when it felt tedious.
What helped me grow the most was consistency—showing up for the work even when I didn’t feel like it. I also leaned into collaboration, getting feedback from trusted voices and learning from experienced writers. Now, I can confidently say that while writing may not be my first love, it’s a skill I’ve significantly improved—and one that has opened new doors in my creative journey.
What about you? What’s been your biggest area of growth recently?
