We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Micah Haynes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Micah below.
Micah, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I have always been a curious person, even as a child. I think curiosity grows and drives a sense of creativity. I was especially drawn to music at a young age – beginning with violin and voice lessons and eventually teaching myself piano and ukulele. I always had my digital camera nearby and loved playing with lighting, filters, poses, and getting lost in the process.
I love expressing myself in different forms. Whether it be through music, writing, art, fashion, or photography, I never want to stay stagnant and I think that motivates me to keep my creativity alive. Mastering a skill does not mean you are finished. Do not stay on the mountaintop too long. Find a new mountain to climb. Stay curious and find inspiration. I find my inspiration everywhere. Whether it be in the way a flower opens itself in the sunlight or the way a song blends into another, inspiration is all around us. We just have to open ourselves to receiving it.
The way I grow and foster a sense of creativity is allowing myself to be still in a world where we are constantly over-consuming. Put your phone down, sit with yourself, and allow your mind to wander. Creativity blossoms in that environment. Though it can be uncomfortable at first, inspiration will come.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I launched my marketing agency, Micah Haynes Creative, in July of 2024. Within my business, I do a variety of work but predominantly photography and social media management. This includes everything from strategy to content creation to branding. I love how unconventional my job is and that I am able to learn new things everyday. I get fulfillment in building strong relationships with my clients and putting a smile on their face. I love watching my clients grow in their confidence and find their voice. I try to make the experience a fun and seamless process that is exciting rather than draining. Most of my clients are entrepreneurs and their hard work and dedication to their craft inspires me to sharpen my skills and stay diligent in my work. I hope to keep expanding in 2025!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, I think what has helped me the most is my ability to build relationships, be adaptable, and my overall grit and dedication. The way I think about it is – there are so many other individuals that are incredibly talented – what sets me apart? Firstly, I lean heavily on my ability to build meaningful relationships and go the extra mile. Though some talent is required, people want to enjoy the person they collaborate with. Being a “people person” matters. Secondly, I stay adaptable and nimble, taking on new tasks and not getting too overwhelmed with thoughts of failure. Instead, I try to focus on adapting to the challenge and delivering the best work possible. Lastly, being dedicated and gritty is necessary for success. There will be days where you want to quit and it takes grit and dedication to push to the next level.
No one is naturally great at anything when they start (if you are, I am severely jealous)! Find successful individuals in your community and learn from them. Give yourself grace at the beginning but also know when to pick yourself back up and work hard at your craft. Everyone’s journey is different, I have found that talent and skills are not a “one size fits all” and to lean into what you are naturally good at!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
One thing I really admire about my generation is our ability to break stigmas on mental health and discuss it openly. I certainly feel overwhelmed at times. Though my business is exciting in so many ways, it can be really isolating being an entrepreneur. Coming from working in businesses that had large teams and corporate structure, it can feel like I am stuck on an island by myself at times.
When I feel overwhelmed, I do my best to focus on the things I CAN control and try to release the things that are OUT of my control. My advice is work daily to change your mindset. I practice gratitude and write down five things I am thankful for daily (or when I remember to). Gratitude is so powerful in shifting our mindset. Yoga is a huge part of my life as well. I go to Shakti Power Yoga and really love Troy’s class, he has taught me so much that I take with me outside of class. Having strong friendships and community with others really helps lift me up when I am feeling overwhelmed. Lastly, finding a self-care routine that works for YOU – for me, I love to put on my favorite music, light a candle, draw a bath, and relax. Find what works for you and incorporate it into your daily routine!
