Meet Michael Barton

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michael Barton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michael below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Michael with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

An easy answer to where did I obtain my work ethic would be saying “i got it from my parents” but that does little to explain the root of it al.

Growing up in a biracial household with different cultural backgrounds & traditions. You find the common denominator of “a full days work” mentality.
Mi mamá es de Guayaquil Ecuador, immigrating after high school to New York where learning a second language on top of working factory hours which became her first real hurdles upon coming here. Her journey took her from the east coast, to the Midwest and down to Southern California. All Along the way climbing up through whatever company she worked for.

During this time my old man, was making his life changes from rural Wisconsin to the West Coast, career changing from culinary to logistics driving truck.

Both of them accustomed to rolling up one’s sleeves and getting the work done for a better tomorrow was a shared experience & one they later taught to their kids,

As i dove into the workforce at 15, i too began to understand the ability to “put ones head down and work” in order to be further down the road or new level of success.
This over time changes ones outlooks from “I think I can make that work” to “I know I can make it work” and with that outlook, I know I will achieve.

This mentality and approach has been a cornerstone to the successes I’ve seen play out in life. As well as an approach that has been able to thrive in the time spent here in Utah.

Finding success in retail management, which took me into finance and branch management, a detour as a bartender, and lastly following the dream of being a barber & shop owner one day.

Today we can say we are living our dream & grateful for the examples of work ethic that one can learn from to keep on their own road towards success

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Hey Everyone,

My name is Michael Barton & my Barber Moniker is ZomBee Mike.

I’m a hair artist in the Utah Valley for the last 5-6 years now, specifically in the Salt Lake County area.

Find ZomBee at Salt Valley Barber Co on 4092 S State St, Millcreek, Utah.
6 days a week we will be creating custom styles or colors for clients and friends.
Some of this seasons most asked for looks have been (lived in) taper fades with added texture. Texture up top allows dimension to show through styling.
We have learned that most people feel that their hair is, just that; hair. This is an opportunity we at Salt Valley Barbers see a chance to sit down with our clients & together create a look our client feels comfortable in as well as empowered to recreate their style from the shop back at home.

One may call us Hair Fanatics and that is exactly right.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Learn to be okay with the process.
Hair is a trade, and a trade takes time and repetitions.

Grow with your clients.
They become more like friends & family, celebrate their successes as they would celebrate your own.

Be yourself.
Clients will appreciate you for you, and not just because you are behind the chair.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

I believe the ideal client would be an individual who is ready for a style change.

Whether that be color, cut, or sitting down with a “grow out” plan. I want to be their hair artist.

Let’s sit down, talk about what you may love about your hair, what you may dislike about your hair, and importantly. “How do you want to feel” with your new style.

These are the early steps of creating a look custom to you & who you are.
Let us make you a hair fanatic about your own hair.
