Meet Michael Carter

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michael Carter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Michael with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from my mother. She worked hard at everything she did and in my family, everybody worked to live and lived to work to be able to support their family and enjoy life at the same time, The work ethic I learned from my family and wanting to get my mother everything she deserves in life kept me pushing harder at everything I do and have done.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am an actor and a 10-time award winning filmmaker. I retired from the US Army in 2017 and been acting ever since. I have written, directed and produced one full feature, 4 short films, music video and web-series. I also have a nonprofit where I teach, mentor and train youth on life skills. I love doing what i do and being able to create art and to see it unfold right in front of me, but the biggest satisfaction is the reaction i get from the people. My brand is family based to where we all work together and are able to accomplish our mission as a family. I am currently in the process of working on a new film and completing another short called “How I Got 20”, which will caveat off of the film I have on Tubi called What Goes Around Comes Around. I am also rehearsing for this new play called Single Shyt written by James Webb of a Tangled Webb Production. I starred in 2 films as the supporting actor, one called Lotta Lies written and shot by Adolfe Latorre which was screened in five sold out theaters in Jacksonville FL and Soulhood Saga which will air in theaters on May 27th written and shot by Carlos “the filmmaker” Smith. I am currently working with Northwest Behavioral Health on A ride for Suicide and Menta health to take place in September and a youth summer camp.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities or skills that help impact my journey are life lessons learned while growing up in Mississippi, the lessons I learned in the military and during my combat skills and working with people from different backgrounds. Learning and understanding how people and the world operates gives a better look of how the picture of life really look. The best advice i can give is never give upon your goals, consistency is key and travel and see the world to learn that the environment you in is way different from other environments. When you change your environment for the good it will also help you change your mindset.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am looking for people with the same or similar mindset to partner with. I would love to work with other industry people to continue to get better at what I do. Everyone in this industry would love to work with Tyler Perry due to how he pulled himself up from being homeless and became a Mogul. He pushed through all the red tape and established himself to be one of the greatest creators ever. But one of the my greatest artist i would love to collaborate with is Jamie Foxx.
