We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Chandler a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic is deeply rooted in my upbringing and the example set by my dad. Growing up, I watched him navigate the freedoms and struggles of entrepreneurship with a positive mental attitude (PMA). He didn’t just talk about personal development and resilience—he lived it every day. Seeing him approach challenges with optimism and a relentless drive to succeed left a lasting impression on me.
One of the key lessons I learned from him was the importance of showing up, no matter the circumstances. Whether he was working through tough times or celebrating a win, his consistency and determination were unshakable. He taught me that success isn’t just about talent or luck—it’s about perseverance, discipline, and always striving to be better.
My passion for technology also shaped my work ethic. From a young age, I loved figuring out how things worked, which often meant spending countless hours problem-solving, experimenting, and learning. That curiosity turned into a relentless drive to improve and innovate, which has been a cornerstone of my career.
When I started my own family, my work ethic took on a new dimension. I wasn’t just working for myself anymore—I was working to build a future for my loved ones. That sense of responsibility motivated me to push harder, stay focused, and pursue opportunities that aligned with my values and long-term goals.
Today, my work ethic is fueled by a combination of those early lessons from my dad, my passion for technology and entrepreneurship, and my commitment to creating opportunities for others through The Entrepreneur Advantage. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, three qualities stand out as the most impactful: resilience, adaptability, and the ability to build meaningful connections. Each of these has played a pivotal role in shaping my career and approach to entrepreneurship.
Resilience
Resilience is the ability to keep going, even when things don’t go as planned. As an entrepreneur, you will face challenges, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. What sets successful people apart is their ability to bounce back stronger. I learned this from watching my dad maintain a positive mental attitude through both the highs and the lows of entrepreneurship. My advice to anyone looking to develop resilience is to embrace challenges as learning opportunities and focus on your long-term vision. The ability to persevere will be one of your greatest strengths.
Adaptability
In a world that’s constantly changing—especially in business—being adaptable is crucial. Early in my career, I realized that success isn’t about rigidly sticking to a plan; it’s about being willing to pivot when needed. This was particularly true when I started exploring how technology could empower small businesses. Embracing new tools and trends allowed me to stay ahead and innovate. For those early in their journey, my advice is to stay curious and open to learning. Don’t fear change—use it to your advantage.
Building Meaningful Connections
The ability to connect with others and build authentic relationships has been invaluable. Whether it’s fostering a strong team, collaborating with partners, or engaging with clients, relationships are the foundation of any successful venture. I’ve found that listening, being genuine, and showing up for others creates trust and long-term opportunities.
