Meet Michael Laster

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Laster a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Michael, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to be a creative genius. Growing up, I surrounded myself with art and different creative influences, which eventually led me to discover my true passion, fashion. As I got older, fashion became more than just clothing; it became a way of life that shaped me into the person I am today.

Through styling, jewelry, and trends, my creativity flows freely, allowing me to express emotions and ideas that words sometimes cannot. Fashion, for me, isn’t just about what you wear it creates identity, and leaving a lasting impression. My dream is to take this passion and transform it into something bigger, inspiring others through my vision and designs. Eventually becoming an aspiring Fashion Designer.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Considering how I’m so far into my career at such a young age. I balance both school and my online influence at the same time. Being that I’m only 15 it’s sometimes stressful trying to come up with creative ideas and what my next project will be. What makes my journey so aspiring is that I’m at such a young age in life but I’ve already started to build my foundation to my future. It’s important to me because everyday I prove to myself that I can do what I put my mind to, and hopefully it aspires other people my age to believe they can too.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three useful resources that I use in my daily life are Creativity, Communication, and being a Role Model to everyone. I use my creativity everyday through my outfits, ideas, and thoughts. I use my communication everyday by being vocal about what matters to me especially when it comes to the art community. I tend to be a Role Model everyday by showcasing that you can be anything you wanna be as long as you put your mind to it. Some advice that I can give to others is that no matter how silly that dream might sound, no matter how badly people don’t appreciate your work. Continue to work towards your dreams and fight for your goals and achievements. Eventually people will appreciate you for your work & talent because hard work pays off and it can open many doors for you.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing that my parents have done for me in life is teach me the rights and wrongs in life. My mother took on a major role of life by being the main parent. My mom has taught me so many valuable traits to carry through life and to showcase. My mother has taught me how to treat people with respect, she’s taught me to be kind to everyone and to never judge anyone without proof being shown, she’s taught me to be presentable in any moment or situation, and most importantly she’s taught me to always be me and to chase what matters to me the most.

My mom is someone who I look up to because in times of crisis she stood her ground and showed how being strong can open many doors for you. My mother is the reason why I treat everyone with respect and the reason why I try to push everyone to greatness. Using the traits and lessons my mother has taught me is the reason why I constantly remind myself of my goals that I want to achieve but in order to achieve those goals it comes with hard work, dedication, and reminding myself who I am.
