We recently connected with Michael Mitchell and have shared our conversation below.
Michael , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience was shaped by my surroundings. Growing up, I endured and witnessed incredible trauma, pain, loss, and hardship. Through it all, one word stayed with me: survive.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m the oldest of five boys and was born in one of the toughest neighborhoods in the state of Connecticut. From a young age, I was determined not only to grow and build my own path but also to help and inspire others to do the same. While I initially dreamed of becoming an architect, I found my true calling as a realtor, where I have the privilege of guiding others toward their own goals and dreams. As a realtor, I take great pride in not only helping people sell their homes but also in guiding them toward the dream of homeownership. I feel truly honored and humbled to be part of each family’s journey. From the outside, the process may seem complicated, but my role is to simplify it, making the path as seamless and stress-free as possible. In 2025, I’ll be hosting no-pressure, casual seminars for first-time home buyers and sellers. My goal is to educate and empower people as they navigate one of life’s biggest decisions—buying or selling a home.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities I believe have had the biggest impact on my success are active listening, openness to change, and a willingness to push myself out of my comfort zone. I believe these are essential for anyone striving to succeed. I listen closely to those with more experience, always open to implementing strategies that have proven effective for others. I’m adaptable and embrace learning something new whenever possible. And I constantly push myself beyond my comfort zone, a principle both my broker and therapist emphasize for growth. These are the three qualities I’d recommend to anyone, in any field.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My greatest area of improvement has been developing consistency and discipline. It was a challenge early on, but over the past year, I’ve seen the positive impact of becoming more focused and committed.
