Meet Michael Okon

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michael Okon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Michael, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I’ve always had confidence. There have been moments in my life where it’s waivered but ultimately a law of attraction book, a spiritual book, or quote found online will bring me right back to my personal power of confidence and self-esteem.

I always looked at things in a funny way. I always tried to find humor in everything around me. When you look at your universe in a humorous way, nothing really brings you down. It feels too simple, but looking at life through the lens of comedy will always make you confident.

Here’s a technique that has always worked for me to boost my self-esteem. A recent example is this, I love to play golf with my brother. However, we’re awful. Truthfully, I’ve never met a good golfer, but that’s another story. When we play with others who are better than us, it does to push down your self-esteem by a few notches.

If you imagine yourself surrounded by people rooting you on, television cameras focusing on you, bleachers of audience members all watching you and sending positive energy your way, you will magically start believing in yourself. It’s the weirdest thing, but when you’re surrounded by people who are hoping you succeed, suddenly you get a boost of self-confidence and self-esteem, and you start feeling better, therefore you’ll start playing better.

Another story. A few buddies and I went to Vegas for a weekend. One of my friends had a very low self-esteem and we all went to play in a poker tournament. He ended up at the final table and was so nervous he was going to lose.

I told him to think about all cameras focusing on you. Think about the announcers talking about how good you are. How much of a poker legend you are. He loved that idea and did exactly what I said.

My buddy took first place in the Vegas poker tournament. He said it worked like a charm.

Thinking of yourself surrounded by people that love you, rooting for you, cheering you on will turn any dull day into something so incredible you will feel like you can never lose.

I’ve lived by this visualization my entire life without it ever being taught to me.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Michael Okon and I am a husband, dad, son, brother, terrible golfer, great cook (or at least I think so), podcaster of Okon Bros, President of Okon Co (my family’s film studio), published author of 20+ books, award-winning screenwriter of 40+ screenplays, and President of BLS, a family owned and operated global ground transportation company with 9 offices around the world.

And I still have time to work out, journal, learn from YouTube, read, write, watch movies, and take my kids to their activities (all with the help of my very supportive wife). I also have a degree in English with a focus in Shakespeare, a minor in education, a degree in Finance, an MBA in Business Administration, a certificate in Visualization, Integrative Health, and Parapsychology.

I started my journey in my family’s business, BLS. My mom and dad started BLS 50 years ago in their kitchen on Long Island. I started working in the company during college as a mechanic. After blowing a few engines from not tying the spark plugs in tight enough, my father allowed me into the company and do what I love best, calling and talking to people. So I cold-called day and night, meeting people, learning about people, selling myself. It worked and BLS quickly became the largest family owned and operated ground travel service in the world. I was able to expand operations and open an office in Las Vegas where BLS became the number one vendor to all of MGM Resorts.

While building the company and a family with my amazing wife, Sharon, I wrote a little book called Just Ask the Universe under my alias, Michael Samuels. The book quickly became my go-to self-help guide, launching my writing career. I had about a dozen screenplays I wrote in college, so I took them, created another alias called Michael Phillip Cash, and began fleshing out each script as a novel. After the phone calls stopped, and my wife and kids were in bed, I would write.

That entertainment career flourished and I found myself with a mega-manager based in Los Angeles. My brother and I launched a podcast called Okon Bros. I’m currently taking my writing to another level, as I’ve been pitching my stories to various studios and deal makers.

I can say I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished, but truthfully I feel I’m just getting started.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Read, read, read, watch YouTube, and read some more.

I am a voracious reader for anything self-help. I have a vast collection of books that range from self-help to law of attraction and everything in between. When not reading I love to watch YouTube when it comes to manifesting your dreams.

Follow the people that have done it before you. Tony Robbins once said, “success leaves clues.” That couldn’t be more accurate.

Find people that you admire, that you want to be like and do exactly as they do. Whether it be reading anything you can find on a subject that interests you or checking out YouTube for every video imaginable on the subject.

You don’t have to go to school to learn. Everything is at your disposal on Amazon and YouTube.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

Two books that come to mind (I couldn’t choose just one, because that would be like choosing children) is Wallace Wattles “The Science of Getting Rich” and Joseph Murphy’s “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind”.

Wattles states there is a thinking stuff from which all things are made and in its original states permeates, penetrates and fills the interspaces of the universe. A thought (by you) in this substance will create the thing into the physical universe.

Basically, what you think, you create. This was life-changing when I read it, and I’ve lived my life by this principle over the last 20 years.

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind shows that what you program your subconscious will manifest in reality. If you tell your subconscious commands before you fall asleep, it will all come to pass. This is another life hack that I’ve been doing since reading this life-changing book. To put it simply, it works. Like a charm.
