Meet Michael Satterfield

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Satterfield a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I come from a family of entrepreneurs, growing up everyone in the family had their own business of some kind, My parents, grandparents, sisters, and cousins. Everyone had a full-time or part-time business, working was always just a way of life and my parents always taught me that there will always be other people with more advantages, more connections, and more education, but you have control over how hard you were willing to work.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I founded Satterfield Group back in 2007 as a sales and marketing consulting firm, over the years we shifted focus to become the creative agency we are today. What makes Satterfield Group different is that what we are doing is not just marketing theory, we have built our in-house brands and apply those lessons to the work we do for our clients. Since moving the business to Texas in 2018 we have seen record growth, opening two locations, and more than doubled our staff.

For over 17 years, we have helped craft businesses’ identities and create a brand presence that allows our clients to achieve their goals. With a depth of real-world experience that few boutique agencies can match. At our core we are storytellers, we custom-tailor our services to best tell each client’s story through branding, content, product development, and event marketing. We are fortunate that we get to work with everyone from small local businesses up to the Global 500 and each client gets the benefit of each of our staff’s unique backgrounds and experiences. We aren’t your typical creative agency and that just how we like it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Solving problems has always been a top priority for me, even if it involved taking risks and embracing new opportunities. Often, this required learning new skills, collaborating with the right people, or hiring experts to achieve the desired outcomes, even if it meant stepping out of my comfort zone. When a potential client reaches out to you, it’s important to understand that they see potential in you or your organization that they believe will benefit them. So, don’t hesitate to take that meeting in New York with a big brand, say yes to that project that requires travel, and answer the phone when it rings.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always on the lookout for individuals and brands to collaborate with, as this is a crucial element for both our own and our clients’ success. We are very selective in taking on new clients, only choosing those who not only fit our agency but also fit into the larger ecosystem of our work. We often facilitate collaborative partnerships between our clients, enabling all parties to achieve a greater impact.
