We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Stone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
In a recent study, the #1 regret people had on their deathbeds was: “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.” This powerful insight resonates deeply with many of us, as we navigate through layers of cultural, familial, and societal conditioning that often obscure our true selves.
Finding out who I really am and finding my life purpose has been a lifelong project for me.
In my younger days, I was very successful in business, building and selling multiple companies, but I still felt a vague dissatisfaction with my life even though I could not figure out exactly why. I thought that I would find my purpose by looking into the outside world for the answers. But, it never worked.
And, then, in my mid 50s, I took a trip to South America and did an ayahuasca journey with powerful results. For the first time in my life, I actually felt safe in the world, I felt like I belonged.
When I returned back to the United States, my science mind told me that if I can have a powerful experience like that with a substance, the receptors in my brain had to be there that allowed that experience to take place and there must be other ways to activate the same receptors without any substances.
And, ultimately, I found breathwork. This practice uses breath and music to quiet the ego mind and tap into your inner guidance – your internal compass that aligns with your true self and deepest values, guiding you towards choices that resonate with your authentic desires and purpose. I found that in the same way that my body knows how to heal itself if I get a cut, my psyche also has that drive towards healing, health and wholeness.
Through breathwork, I had finally found a way to get in touch with my unconscious limiting beliefs and conditioning and connect with my true self.
Over time, it helped peel away the layers of conditioning and clarify the inaccurate, limiting beliefs and conditioning I had carried for decades so I could then work with and release them on a conscious level.
And, through breathwork, I personally uncovered a deep-seated belief created in childhood that the world is an unsafe place. By addressing and transforming this belief, I not only was able to have my first successful relationship but I also finally was able to trust and appreciate life in a way I had never been able to do before.
I became clear that I was the creator of my own life, but that I had been letting my unconscious limiting beliefs and narratives create a life with limits. And, now that I had discovered a pathway to shift those beliefs, I discovered that the possibilities for my future were unlimited. And, after several years, as a result of my breathwork journey of inner discovery, I was finally able to see my true purpose in life: to contribute to others’ growth and expansion through the tool that had helped me so powerfully – breathwork. So, I created my own breathwork modality in 2018, NeuroDynamic Breathwork®, that can be done in-person or online and brought it to the world. Since then, tens of thousands of people have experienced this breathwork with one of the primary results reported being “getting more clarity on my purpose in life”.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My purpose and role in life is to support others to expand and grow, to break free from their unconscious blocks and thinking patterns and to manifest the life of their dreams.
I do this through a breathwork modality that I created called NeuroDynamic Breathwork® which can be done inexpensively and conveniently, online or in-person.
Breathwork is a term for various breathing practices in which the conscious control of breathing results in a positive impact on a person’s mental, emotional or physical well being. Breathwork is not new. In ancient societies, breath was used as one of the principal tools for healing practice and self-realization.
This practice uses breath and music to quiet the ego mind and tap into your inner guidance – your internal compass that aligns with your true self and deepest values, guiding you towards choices that resonate with your authentic desires and purpose.
What is special about NeuroDynamic Breathwork® is that it is not guided by the facilitator, it is guided solely by the breather’s inner guidance. And, participants start to see that they can find all of the answers within, they do not need to go into the outside world to find their purpose, or even for validation. And, the results for our regular breathers are remarkable.
89% get relief from anxiety; 84% get relief from trauma, 75% gain better access to their inner guidance. Other results include: relief from depression, greater self awareness, improved romantic relationships, feeling more in their body and getting more clarity on their purpose in life.
I also have an online 6 month Breathwork Facilitator Training Program so others can also learn how to facilitate these powerful breathwork sessions for their friends, families and other people in their lives and, as a result, contribute to world healing.
In addition, in the fall of 2024, I will be launching an online version of the Train Your Brain Master Course, where participants will be given tools to learn how to find their own unconscious blocks and limiting beliefs in their everyday lives without the use of breathwork and expand their perspectives to open up new possibilities in their lives.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most important skill sets for my own personal journey have been:
a) learning how to do my own inner work, understanding what is going on in my unconscious mind, and then shifting those beliefs, narratives and thinking patterns to empower me to move forward in my life instead of holding me back, and
b) learning emotional mastery, how to use my emotions to move me forward in life instead of having them run my life.
The most important area of knowledge has been neuroscience, specifically in the areas of how perception and memory work in the brain.
My advice to people early in their journey is that everybody has their own lens through which they see their reality. And, that in order to make transformational changes in their lives, they have to understand what is happening in their inner world, what their beliefs and narratives are, and how they project those beliefs and narratives onto their external realities. For example, if a person is in a bad relationship, if they leave the relationship and do not do the work to understand why they got into it in the first place and what needs it was fulfilling, they will just get into a similar type of relationship over and over again until they do the work to figure it out.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is somebody who is committed to expand and grow throughout their life and also is willing to go out of their comfort zone to make that happen.
