We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Tatmon Jr. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Michael , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Well actually my purpose found me. I been into sports my whole life. I always envisioned I would be playing professional sports. Although it was apparent eventually that professional sports would not be my path. I graduated with a BA in criminal justice. I thought this would be my next venture but when the economy took a wrong turn in early 2000s and had a recession I was once again forced to pivot. Again I been into sports my whole life. My dad was and still is a fitness trainer. Not once did I imagine myself being a fitness trainer. But I seen the impact he had on others lives and said to myself why not. So for over a decade now I been a fitness trainer. Training kids, adults, and specializing with Seniors. Now I know we’re my purpose is and been fulfilling it lately. Now I work with Veterans as well. But my passion is Senior fitness. Plus side I still train a couple of kids now hopefully I can get them to professional sports if they decide.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As of now I work as a fitness trainer for the City of Oakland, in Colobrations with UC Davis School of Medicine and Indiana University. My company name that I’m apart of is called The Good Life which is now a non-profit
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Time Management
Discipline
Being a self motivator
All were keys in my overall development.
I would say research all these topics and see how they apply to self.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents was around and very supportive. Having people believe in you is motivation.
