Meet Michael Tennier

We were lucky to catch up with Michael Tennier recently and have shared our conversation below.

Michael , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Over years of preparation and dedication to my craft, you begin to receive constant compliments and positive reinforcement. Years of being on high end quality driven projects with millionaires and mega alfa males telling us how incredible our product and work turns out, you start to believe them. I have been blessed to have a career that makes my clientele extremely happy. Nothing will build confidence more!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I started my company during the peak of the pandemic. I had been in construction for 25 years and had been a superintendent for a decade. It was a scary time to step out on my own, also the best decision of my career. I started a company with a partner that was a general contractor. Shortly after covid started, he pulled his funding and left me solo. This was a blessing in disguise, doing it without a partner is the only way. The artistic freedom and independence are truly a grand reward. Now in the winter when the snow flies, we all go snowboarding in Tahoe. Perfect work/life flow!
We also in our almost five years in business we have seen roughly 100% growth annually. Apparently that’s pretty good! We recently just completed the new Les Shwab in Spanish Springs NV that is a commercial beauty. The designer did a great job! Also just did a major renovation of an enormous law office downtown that looks like a spaceship!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Work ethic, desire, and perseverance were the special ingredients in my success. I always worked hard that was inate. Built in, no other choice. My desire out weighed everything. Wanting and needing to be great at many things was always natural. Once I was introduced to Masonry and its many difficult tasks, I was hooked. Becoming awesome at something everyone thought was hard and dismissed was really appealing to me. Don’t be afraid to try hard tasks, you might love it!

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who respects and trusts the process. Artistic freedom comes from the soul, sharing this with clients is seriously giving them a part of who you are. An open mind when it comes to design is key. An ideal client loves and appreciates the energy you leave embedded in your work!
